This blog is a midden for my thoughts and reflections on my research and my life. Friday, January 25, 2013. We threw a big backyard BBQ to tell our families. Part of me wishes we could have come up with a more exciting way to tell everyone with some sort of big reveal but ultimately it didn't matter - hearing the exclamations of happiness, getting all the hugs, seeing all the eyes shiny with tears of joy really made it a special day. I was so excited to submit a portfolio for, and to get into, Write 393 during my undergrad. That course killed any passion I had for writing. Because Edmonton Cares will be volunteering at the Edmonton Food Bank on October 16th, 2013, and we are aiming to bring a boat-load of diapers and formula with us. Ok, maybe not a boat-load but for sure a car-load! Last time we had our Diaper Drive. Our goal this time is to collect 2,500 diapers and at least 25 containers of formula. With your help we can do it!

I just wanted to send a quick post out to everyone who contributed to our 2nd Because Edmonton Cares Diaper Drive in support of the Edmonton Food Bank. We had our first company donation of 1,800 diapers which was a huge boost! We also had several people who asked their friends and family for diapers/formula in lieu of gifts at birthday parties; they raised hundreds of diapers and multiple cans of formula. How one practical woman sees it. Tuesday, March 4, 2014. We're lucky. Not everyone has such a large family who want to help celebrate these special occasions. It also means they get royally spoiled! Don't get me wrong, it wasn't an easy conversation. There were a few tears at first because they didn't understand why they give gifts at parties and didn't get any back. Understandable, they were very young. It took many assurances that they would still have new toys and clothes, just not as much.

We were standing on the field watching the other parents refuse to step up and help when the coach wasn't able to make it to the game. It hurt to have to say no, it hurt even more to see your eye roll when I gave the reason why. Many people think osteoarthritis is just a few aches. That eye roll told me you are one of them.
