Kate's Brooklyn Blog. Just another WordPress.com site. New Yorkers Don’t Use the Waterfront? It’s the Water. June 23, 2010. A few links for those of us who have been thinking about the Brooklyn water while drinking Brooklyn beer and eating Brooklyn bagels. With Sixpoint Craft Ales. Founder, who credits the Brooklyn water for the taste of his beer. (Note that the name. Is in part a nod to the nautical history of Red Hook, where the brewery is located.). I would love to go on this Brewed in Brooklyn Tour.

Kate's Brooklyn Blog. Just another WordPress.com site. Newer posts →. Brooklyn Isn’t Mine, But I’ve Visited A Lot. June 22, 2010. Today we took to the water. My first memory of being on the water in NYC was taking the Circle Line when I was 10 or so with my grandmother and aunt. I had a horrible earache and spent much of the trip lying on my side. I also knew little about Newtown Creek. June 21, 2010. Photo by Neilson Abeel. Photo by Neilson Abeel. Photo by Neilson Abeel. Photo by Neilson Abeel. Photo by...

Kate's Brooklyn Blog. Just another WordPress.com site. Opening My Eyes in New York →. Preservation News and Links. June 25, 2010. I’ve been so busy this week that I didn’t realize that the my neighborhood. Was designated a historic district. Greenwich Village was, as we have heard, the 2nd neighborhood to be granted the designation–but only above 4th Street. The Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation put together a (slightly clunky) visual tour. Provides a narrated slide show. Opening My Eye...

Kate's Brooklyn Blog. Just another WordPress.com site. New Yorkers Don’t Use the Waterfront? Rust Never Sleeps →. June 23, 2010. I don’t remember my first trip across the Brooklyn Bridge. When I was just a few months old, my father, who believes babies need a lot of fresh air, walked with me across the bridge and back, then stopped my McSorley’s. The weekend of my grandfather. We wanted to celebrate by having a drink at the River Cafe. They were having a wedding that night and cast us out–quite rud...

Kate's Brooklyn Blog. Just another WordPress.com site. Preservation News and Links →. June 25, 2010. I find rust beautiful, even though I know it is a sign of destruction. Looking through my pictures from Monday and Tuesday, I realized I took a ton of pictures of rusting metal. I’m not sure my grandfather, who owned a foundry. Would have approved of my love of rust, although he would have appreciated the pictures of cast iron in various forms. This slideshow requires JavaScript. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

A highlight of the Newtown Creek tour was seeing the digester eggs, which I had heard about. The artist Maira Kalman contributed a wonderful monthly art blog to the NY Times in 2009. Her September entry. Included her depiction of her trip to the eggs. I want to return and go on the Newtown Creek Nature Walk. This entry was posted in Uncategorized. It’s the Water →.

Kate's Brooklyn Blog. Just another WordPress.com site. It’s the Water. Brooklyn Bridge Walks →. New Yorkers Don’t Use the Waterfront? June 23, 2010. I was pretty upset–and mystified–by several comments made by our first speaker. Today You can’t take public transportation. There aren’t any new immigrants to New York City? New Yorkers, or at least New Yorkers without children, don’t use the waterfront? Below is a visual answer to that last claim–pictures of New Yorkers young and old enjoying the water.
