Recovering journalist/ world traveler/ typical millennial dreamer. 1016: national boss’s day. So, I really, really like the assembly of numbers that is “1016.” It’s part of my instagram name, my Twitter name, a couple of old blogs that I’ve had and it’s tattooed on my ankle. People often ask why I have 1016 everywhere. Short answer: It’s my birthday. Long answer: It’s my birthday. It’s also National Boss’s Day, of which I am one, since birth. So, Happy 1016! October 18, 2014. December 22, 2015. 11 delici...

Nǐ hǎo, Lǎowài! A dude's travel blog through the Middle Kingdom. Harbin Ice and Snow Festival. In Heilongjiang province, the northern-most of China’s 22 provinces, there is a city named Harbin. Harbin is notable for its Russian influenced architecture, a Chinese beer, being ludicrously Siberian-type cold and probably most famously the largest Ice and Snow Festival in the world that takes place in early January every year. But had been resumed in January of 1985. Abandon warmth all ye who enter here.

Nǐ hǎo, Lǎowài! A dude's travel blog through the Middle Kingdom. Chillin’ in Jilin. Instead of getting a single day with fireworks like we do on July 4th for Independence Day. China takes a whole week off for National Holiday/Mid-Autumn Day. After messing up our plans to head into Inner Mongolia and see the grasslands and ride a camel, we decided to hit up this mountainous area in the nearby-ish province of Jilin right next to North Korea. This area or rather the main feature of the area is called Changb...

Recovering journalist/ world traveler/ typical millennial dreamer. The massive life update you’ve been waiting for (or, not). So, here we are, in September. Here I am, in my home region of Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas. I’d be a bald-faced lie (whatever that means) if I said I didn’t miss daily baguettes and stinky cheeses and even the daily corrections to my French pronunciation from cab drivers. But, I’m so happy to be home. Like, unbelievably happy. I’ve gone on and on about the cuisine of other plac...

Recovering journalist/ world traveler/ typical millennial dreamer. Bestof2014: 22 flights, 8 countries, 10 towns beaucoup adventure. Little more than a year has passed since I started this travelogue and I’m very happy with how a lot of things have worked out. I set out to explore France, learn French and turn up the trill factor on my passport. My digital inspiration board for 2014 it’s all happy, happy, travel, travel. My French proficiency has quadrupled and I am a little closer to my goal of fluency.
