A Yankee Thanksgiving in Gettysburg. Joining friends for Thanksgiving, we travelled up to Gettysburg, PA to stay with their parents who recently moved there. It snowed just enough to coat the roofs and lawns, but not enough to cover the roads, creating the perfect winter landscape to enjoy from inside a cozy house. Their house is across the street from Little Round Top, so we took a quick stroll to the top before our Thanksgiving feast to work up an appetite and have our friend bring its history to life.

My last day in Utah included more DC reunions, beginning with one at BYU. Even more than my visit on Friday, going there today reminded me how unique that school and the surrounding area are with all the bridal and engagement ring shops, religious bookstores, etc. I'm glad I attended BYU, but it's certainly not for everyone and especially at certain ages and marital statuses. We had just enough time before our flight to see a few last sights, and started with a monument to Jean Sibelius. His "Finlandia" provided the tune to one of my favorite hymns, "Be Still My Soul", and based on the number of tour buses there I wasn't alone. Today we drove back to Tana, and this time I was prepared for the duration. We stopped for lunch at the Hotel Artist in Ambositra, and were treated to a traditional dance performance while we dined. I liked to think of it as a Malagasy PCC, of sorts. With so much of an (understandable) focus on nature, it was nice to see attempts to preserve their cultural heritage, too.
