A photographer came to the Wildlife Center and asked me to bring out one of the hawks to photograph for her book. I put Naakahay, a male Redtail, on my glove and brought him outside. It was a beautiful snowy day. The air was crisp, the sun was bright, and gentle flakes of snow were swirling softly from the trees. Naakahay stood on my arm with quiet dignity, while the camera clicked away.

Responded to my outrage that Two Buck Chuck was not pulled from the shelves with a carefully worded email asserting that their hands are clean because an independent contractor (Merced Farm Laborers) employed Maria and that the vineyard (West Coast Grape Farming) where Maria collapsed was owned by a company that made wines other than Two Buck Chuck. Whoa – I did my homework here. Remember all the hoopla.

Friday, April 2, 2010. One of my family's favorite meals is veggie lasagna. It takes a little extra time, and when the veggies are not from our yard, a little extra money, but it is so worth it. Here is how I make it for my crew. First I put some pasta sauce in the bottom of my biggest Pyrex pan.
