On the night of April 14th, 1912. 2,225 people had eaten dinner and were settling in for another night onboard the world's largest ocean liner. Only 705 would be alive to see dawn. The last living survivor died. Tuesday, March 8, 2011. The bodies of all but three of those whose hearts are here are in the Imperial Crypt a few blocks away.

Opportunistic merchants offered to sell special coffins and tombstones. A string was tied to the dead person's finger or hand. The other end was tied to a bell that sat on top of the grave marker.
