July 28, 2011. One of the baristas at Elysian gave us a few recommendations. One was for another new café called Innocent, which felt like the kitchen of a dollhouse, but had a sick upstairs art gallery. The barista’s lunch recommendation landed us near Gastown at a new spot called Nelson the Seagull. Family style tables, antique adornments, a fresh daily menu that included frothy fresh-squeezed apple juice, and an open kitchen of gingham-clad women were just a few details that made it an instant favorite.

July 11, 2011. A stretch break midway through a long run called for an espresso shot. Only here Jacob and I ran to Greenlake on Saturday afternoon and headed back after recharging outside Zoka Coffee. Some of my favorite Seattle days have been with him, and the run holds a close second to our day in Ballard, complete with card browsing at Lucca and raw oysters and white wine at The Walrus and the Carpenter.
