A frequently updated blog for the Kenilworth Chess Club. Monday, March 17, 2014. White Fianchetto vs. the Pirc Defense. Play 4.g3, then Bg2, Nge2, h3, O-O, Be3, Qd2, Rd1, Re1, and then, if the coast is clear, play an immediate f2-f4, or prepare it first with g3-g4 and Ne2-g3. Signalman: Newspaper Endgame, Barden Openings

https://signalman90.blogspot.com/2015/06/newspaper-endgame-barden-openings.html

Notes from the nadir of chess. 14 June, 2015. Newspaper Endgame, Barden Openings. A simple, but intriguing endgame from the Leonard Barden chess column in the Guardian. Was one of the two chess authors who enriched my schoolboy days, the other being Harry Golombek. Although Fred Reinfeld may be very well known in the US, in Britain in the 1960s and 1970s, I had barely heard of him, and, obviously, stuck with home-grown authors. And Barden's " Chess. Along with the usual Openings fare, he also has neat co...

Signalman: Bishop to the rescue

https://signalman90.blogspot.com/2015/08/bishop-to-rescue.html

Notes from the nadir of chess. 12 August, 2015. Bishop to the rescue. A neat way out here. Although at first glance it looks bad for White, in fact the precarious position of the Black King offsets his passed pawn! I would be extremely happy to be able to find such a combination in a match situation! Highlight for solution [ 1.Bg5 c8=Q 2.g4 fxg 3. Bxc1 g2 4.Be3. Its a Endgame-Study like position so you would see the solutione easier if you would solve many endgame studies. 13 August, 2015 15:20. Chess Mi...

Visitor Information Centre in Kenilworth - the heart of the Mary Valley

Home - our town. Kenilworth is a small town, with a population of less than 300, in the beautiful upper Mary Valley, behind the Blackall Ranges and only about one and a half hours drive north of Brisbane. The Town retains much of its 1930s atmosphere and, for the visitor, has a surprising amount of interest with a very engaging historical museum and a good range of shops, art gallery and a cheese factory. The State Forest at Kenilworth provides excellent opportunities for camping, horse riding and walking.
