March 9, 2013. It was time to get muddy again. That’s why I found myself on the road headed to Kualoa Ranch to participate in the Makahiki Challenge, which is a mud run/obstacle course. Bolohead Ridge to Kaala to Tiki Ridge. March 2, 2013. I found myself walking on the Waianae Valley Road with Marcus, Jay, Tom, Scott, Brian and Aaron to hike up Bolohead Ridge. Did I ever mention I hate this mile plus road of unyielding concrete with a passion? This was our second attempt, as two weeks ago we got rained out and had to turn back. In 1795 Kamehameha battled with Kalanikūpule for control of O`ahu. The battle for O`ahu culminated in Nu`uanu Valley and what is today called the Pali Lookout. I woke up at 3:30 am and drove up to the Nu`uanu Pali Lookout for Ho`omana`o `Ana o Ke Kaua Lelea`anae. It was a windy and rainy morning. Being that it was Fourth of July weekend Volcano National Park. Had park rangers lining up traffic and parked cars down the road leading to the lookout. I've never seen the lookout so packed! Made for a spectacular sunset. Sunset illuminated clouds over Mauna Loa. People were lined up along the lookout wall.

However, once I saw the roof of the cabin peeking out from the fenceline, my energy levels rose since our stay was in the middle of ocean ridges and the Waianae range in front.
