On a not-so private road to the woods. Thursday, October 31, 2013. Angry clouds start to thin. Limited views on Cascade. My timing was poor though and I exited the tree line straight into a cloud. The long ranging vistas from Cascades summit would remain hidden today but the clouds were moving fast so I was still hopeful. Back to my pack and then the short walk over to Porter where I arrived to blue skies! Finally the clouds start to lift. But the Great Range resists the clearing trend. Ottawa, Ontario, ...

I could maybe have squeezed in but it was a shortish hike and I figured - with all the cars in the lot – the trail would be a complete traffic jam/zoo. So maybe on to Plan C? And took a short break to stow the skis, strap on the snowshoes and eat and drink before the climbing began. Skiing past the rock wall along the Flowed lands. On a not-so private road to the woods. Saturday, February 01, 2014. Winter has been quite good this year. Lots of snow arrived early and stayed! Often those early snows are just a little too light to cover the roots and rocks. or a short melt brings everything back to square one. We've had neither drawback here in town and the skiing has been good. Looks sunny but it was none too warm! A long evening ahead (photo borrowed from BVT). Fresh grooming was my Christmas present. Trails of fast melting ice.

I had to dig down to get access to my composter the other day. Three months of skiing has been fine but let's move on to other things! Views from up high. Friday, 15 February 2008. P7 to Western cabin. On Wednesday night through Thursday we got another 10-15cm of new snow! Bryan and I had Friday off and were headed to the last cabin in the park that I had yet to visit, Western. Western is a small cabin that sits on the edge of the Eardley escarpment so it is best to visit on a nice sunny day and hope that not a lot of other people have the same idea in mind. And Bryan had a near collision. A super day to be out skiing in Gatineau park!

I have skied in Vermont before (Smuggler's Notch, Stowe and Sugarbush), but had never hiked there. The drive across from New York, where I was staying, was clouded in a thick pea-soup fog that obsured the miles of farm land from Lake Champlain. The walk down seemed to take forever and for sure it took longer than the hike up. Views from up high. Tuesday, 29 May 2007. Hurricane and the fog. After two hours we emerged on the top. An awesome view of Vermont and Lake Champlain in the east, Whiteface to the north, most of the high peaks to the west but closest and also unique was the view of the Giant mountain - Rocky Peak ridgeline to the south. Now Rocky falls can hardly be described as a waterfall (more like rapids) but it is a great place to sit on a rock and dangle one's feet in the cool running water. Views from up high. Tuesday, 26 June 2007. The views go for miles in all directions from the Kinsman ridge and Mt Cannon to the west to the Pemi wilderness and Bonds to the east but the best views are in either direction of the ridge itself. Views from up high. Monday, 22 October 2007. The return part of the loop is lower down and in the forest. On the way back we spent an equal amount of time taking photos of the trees as well as of the leaves on the ground (many looked quite artistic at the time! What a great way to spend an afternoon! Views from up high. Monday, 31 December 2007. They let us go at work today at noon and I was packed and ready. Drove straight to P10 and luckily found a spot after a five minute wait. Conditions were again real nice and the sun was even peeking out from time to time. Half way up the hill I met a woman skiing with no wax on her skis. She said the waxing clinic is this Wednesday!
