This table shows some hints about where all the Kennamers ended up. I compiled it by searching the Yahoo white pages for each of the variant spellings shown, eliminating duplicate entries. This is certainly not a complete census of family members, but it does suggest that the most common spelling of the name is probably. The first known members of the Genheimer Family arrived at Philadelphia on the ship Mary in 1732. They were from the Palatinate Region of Germany by way of Rotterdam, Holland. The Philadelphia port authorities did not understand the German language. Stephen, age 60, was registered as Haffa Kenama. Jacob, age 16, became Jacob Kenama. Previous arrivals from the Palatinate were living in York County, Pennsylvania. In 1752, Jacob Canamore was granted a survey of 350 acres by the South Carolina authorities.

The cove is a small valley surrounded by low mountains and ridges in the southern region of the Cumberland Plateau. The size and shape are the results of water erosion. The first inhabitants were the ancestors of the Cherokee Indians. At some time in the unrecorded past, unorganized groups from the west moved into the forest covered land east of the Mississippi River.
