As I went into winter my front yard was a mess of scraggly twigs and under-acheiving plants overwhelmed by an uncontrolled growth of Russian Sage. Much to my surprise, the twiggy war zone of mid-winter turned into a thing of beauty when spring arrived. Here are some pictures. A variety of Scotch Broom. Mexican Bird of Paradise tree.

That ravine provides a handy natural pathway for animals to move around without being seen. Most are shy but some are very sneaky. We have bunnies that are too tame and my neighbor has taken to feeding them. It's cute and they come into my yard so I'll toss out a few carrots from time to time but I worry about them being easy prey for the coyotes. I sound like I'm complaining ...

Over the weekend I pulled out about five gallons of plant material from the stream and I could tell that the leaking had slowed but not stopped. The stream has almost nothing growing in it. Wednesday, July 23, 2014. Don't be these people. I sometimes think that the world needs a penalty box. For committing a 'life foul', you have to take a break in the penalty box. Maybe just a few minutes, but you'd be sort of 'sent off' for a time out, so to speak. Some examples of things that I'd like to send folks to the box for committing would be:. Purposely swerving your car to run over box turtles on the road. Taking your full-size grocery cart overflowing with items through the Express Checkout lane.

In the meantime, I'm trying to just enjoy my time outside of work here. Over the weekend I went back to Jefferson City to take part in a 5k ColorVibe run through downtown. It was a blast, of course! I did try running a bit more and managed to jog a couple of times each week for about a month after that. Then I got into a car accident and felt bad for a while.
