Coffee Cup Art photo

My approach to still life ranges from recorder to creator, choosing a digital camera or Polaroid transfer. I may use available light to photograph a simple subject in my home, as a vase of calla lilies. Or, digging back into my days as a theater set designer, build a miniature set, that when shot in dramatic lighting becomes a metaphorical world.

California Landscape Color photos
http://www.ksphotoart.com/landscape.html
The Northern California farmlands and open space surrounding my San Rafael studio and home serve as a continuing source of inspiration. I often return to the same place in different seasons and time of day to record the changing moods as, just the right blanket of clouds or the circling of a hawk over a tree.

Portrait Photography

As a portrait photographer, I strive to create an image which will encompass my subject’s life experience with one exposure. With that exposure I hope to reveal the character: the physical manifestation of life’s joys and sorrows in one human being.

Dancers art photo
http://www.ksphotoart.com/narrative.html
All photographs tell a story. In my narrative work, I emphasize the drama, utilizing what I know from my theater background. I may create a mystical character by dressing my model in cardboard wings or capture a particular light from the photographer’s palette to add intrigue to the movement of a dancer. The Polaroid transfer is manipulated to provide a hand made painterly quality.
