Markbeech is situated on the northern edge of the High Weald and is the highest point between the Chart Hills and Ashdown Forest, affording wonderful views over the forest from the pub and garden. The Kentish Horse (the only pub of this name in the UK) was formed from a terrace of three Victorian cottages in the late 19th century. Subsequently, progressive changes to the building have taken it from a basic ale house, through to one serving food. By the 1970s, whilst the addition of an extension in 1993 added a full commercial kitchen and additional eating area as well as enlarging the bar area. Pig’s Ear Folk Ale Festival 2017. There will be concerts, singarounds, open mike, workshops, dancing, a craft fair, real ales and more. The festival is set in the grounds of the pub at Markbeech and onsite camping is available. A weekend festival pass will entitle the holder to all festival events and activities, including the Thursday night ‘Dance For Grant’ which will be held in Markbeech village hall. The Kentish Horse is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy a drink. As a free house we are not tied to one brewery for our products. As a result we stock a wide range of carefully thought out alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Our top sellers are the locally brewed Larkins bitter and Fosters and Amstel lager. Our Harveys bitter has a strong following. For cider drinkers we stock Stowford Press, Symonds and a range of bottled fruit ciders. Finally, what pub would be complete without Guinness.

We serve traditional, home-cooked, pub food using quality, fresh ingredients which are sourced, where possible, from local suppliers. Each dish is freshly made to order.
