Mister Tanaka's Overseas Adventures: Typhoon Nuri Closes in on Hong Kong
http://mistertanaka.blogspot.com/2008/08/typhoon-nuri-closes-in-on-hong-kong.html
Mister Tanaka's Overseas Adventures. Friday, August 22, 2008. Typhoon Nuri Closes in on Hong Kong. We're currently in a T9 warning here in Hong Kong, and we're planning for a direct hit by Typhoon Nuri sometime in the next hour. The center is currently 20 km southeast of Hong Kong, and is heading northwest at about 14 km/hour. For the weather geek who sometimes reads my blog, you can find a history of the typhoon warning system in Hong Kong here. Hit Guam in 1997. At 8/22/2008 03:29:00 PM. Subscribe to: ...
Mister Tanaka's Overseas Adventures: August 2007
http://mistertanaka.blogspot.com/2007_08_01_archive.html
Mister Tanaka's Overseas Adventures. Tuesday, August 28, 2007. Yesterday Must Have Been An Auspicious Day. I visited a printing company a few months ago. The salesperson who gave me the tour introduced me to his boss who was burning the fake paper money in the hallway of the building. He told me that she did this every time she went through the entrance of the office as a wish for lots of good business to come their way. At 8/28/2007 06:20:00 AM. Sunday, August 12, 2007. Students who don’t do well ...
Mister Tanaka's Overseas Adventures: September 2007
http://mistertanaka.blogspot.com/2007_09_01_archive.html
Mister Tanaka's Overseas Adventures. Monday, September 10, 2007. September: Where's my iPod? That brings me mostly up-to-date. September is not apt to be much better for me, work-wise, so I can't promise that I'll be much more prompt this month than I was last. (Actually, I should not have much freelance work, so my evenings will at least be more free.). At 9/10/2007 09:17:00 AM. Thursday, September 06, 2007. Also in August, we sort of learned how to play mahjong. At 9/06/2007 08:44:00 AM. In such a shor...
Mister Tanaka's Overseas Adventures: June 2008
http://mistertanaka.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html
Mister Tanaka's Overseas Adventures. Monday, June 16, 2008. A few weeks ago, we returned from a holiday in Romania. We've each written a bit on our visit. Romania is filled with churches, monasteries and roadside altars. The churches were primarily Eastern Orthodox, Protestant and Catholic. The oldest one we saw went back to the 1300s. This monastery in Maramures was the most beautiful site I saw in Romania. However I wondered why the only people we saw in the monetary was two nuns. Lonely Planet has a p...
Mister Tanaka's Overseas Adventures: Back in the US
http://mistertanaka.blogspot.com/2008/03/back-in-us.html
Mister Tanaka's Overseas Adventures. Monday, March 31, 2008. Back in the US. We returned to the US early in January and have settled back into life on the Eastern Shore. Here is a brief summary of the past few months. So far, they seem to be getting along, after a couple of days of lots of hissing and posturing by Fat Choy. Most of the hissing has subsided and while they're not best friends yet, they are currently enjoying a mostly peaceful coexistence. Greg calls on the Hoovers. This spring we are looki...

December 5, 2006 at 4:57 pm ( Japan. Check Super Spicy Naked Figurines? Tokyo has all this and more. Once again, I had a great time in Tokyo. Thanks to Tomita’s friend, Chunta, we had a free place to stay at over the weekend. It’s nice to have several connections in Tokyo. Makes staying over a much cheaper experience. I contemplated ripping my shirt off and running into the restaurant yelling, “AMERICAN POWER! Who has houses in Chiba and Miami. Nishimura lives next to Hideki Matsui of the New York Ya...

Mister Tanaka's Overseas Adventures: Five Years of Wedded (Mostly) Bliss
http://mistertanaka.blogspot.com/2007/10/five-years-of-wedded-mostly-bliss.html
Mister Tanaka's Overseas Adventures. Tuesday, October 30, 2007. Five Years of Wedded (Mostly) Bliss. We celebrated our fifth -! Anniversary last month, and did what all good married couples should do. We went to China. We initially thought of that Paris of the Pearl River, Shenzhen, renowned for its Wal*Marts and masses of Hong Kong shoppers and factories and, well, little else. So we turned our eyes northward, and headed instead for somewhere that wasn't Shenzhen. This is the place to be. When we re...
