The pilots and their kit were flown by Dakota to Chilbolton where we join Fighter Command No.11 Group and convert to Spitfire IX's. 20645 - Four new aircraft ferried in by ATA. A period of conversion then began for two months. This morning the CO, Sqd/Ldr Storrar, led the squadron in formation down to Hawkinge where we will stay for a month for practice gunnery and bombing'. TA805 was then struck off charge and shipped to the South African Air Force in early 1949. TA805 once wore a similar scheme.

At Manston was having an open day to raise funds for the museum. It coincided with a bit more activity than usual at this large airfield as it was the base for the Red Arrows and RAF Typhoons for the Southend Airshow weekend. The 'dead sparrows' above a 747. Eurofighter Typhoons parked up at the end of sunday afternoon notice how the 'canard' wing is tilted when parked.
