What are you really signing up for? T his piece is based on my experiences of immigrating to Australia from another county and unexpected racial taunts inflicted upon me. I have used new media such as a YouTube video and images from websites such as Facebook. This movie juxtaposes the pure joy and excitement of people who are about to become Australian citizens against images of 'hyper-nationalism' and racism that exists in our society. I am originally from a small country town in New Zealand called Tirau, population of around 700 people and three times as many sheep. My parents moved us to the big city of Auckland and after a few years we immigrated to the Gold Coast Australia in 1994. I graduated from the Queensland College of Art at Griffith University in 2012 as a mature age student with a Bachelor of Digital Media majoring in Fine Art and Drawing. Fire Twirling, 2010. These images are from an experiment with mark marking using light drawing. Fire twirling is essentially fire in a perpetual state of physical transformation, which leaves remnants of previous marks. Kerensa D'Arcy Barr is an artist based in North County Wicklow. Kerensa spent almost 15 years living, working and developing her passion for art overseas, before returning to Ireland in 1998. Her colourful and distinctive works are a stylized reflection of the scenery she encounters daily, living in the Garden of Ireland.
