Sunday, September 28, 2008. Kevin Knieling: Going the distance. I'd like to introduce you to a guy by the name of Kevin Knieling. In a world of people who've had wild dreams about roaming the world, he's someone who's. His travels serve as a great reminder that inland behaviors have a way of flowing all the way to the seas. because his kayak will take that very trip. You can follow the progress of this river voyage, specifically, by going to this section of his site:. Posted by Mike Anderson. Because of ...
Adventure Traveler: Detour...No, Seriously!
http://kevinknieling.blogspot.com/2009/11/82.html
Thursday, November 12, 2009. Detour. No, Seriously! 821 Miles - Cleveland, TN to Blairsville, GA. I was able to find some video of the actual landslide here. There is a short commercial first. The last three miles of that road were the newest road upon which I had ever ridden. It didn’t hurt that it was right along the Hiawassee River. While I still can’t figure out why they would pave that little stretch of road, I had no complaints…at least not for those three miles. As I bumped along I saw a truck comi...
Adventure Traveler: Across the Florida Panhandle
http://kevinknieling.blogspot.com/2008/03/across-florida-panhandle.html
Tuesday, March 11, 2008. Across the Florida Panhandle. I had stayed in the town of Apalachicola, FL, which is rich in history. The area was known for cotton before it moved into the industries of timber and oysters. The area is said to supply ten percent of all oysters harvested in the United States. I saw a mileage sign for the town of Perry, FL. I rode for another 20 minutes and saw a second sign. The second sign gave a distance that was further than the original one! I found some energy for the last 3...
Adventure Traveler: Nashville, Tennessee
http://kevinknieling.blogspot.com/2009/11/nashville-tennessee.html
Monday, November 9, 2009. I was taking a day off to see Nashville, TN. While I am generally not fan of taking organized tours I couldn’t argue with how efficient it would be for my single day off in Nashville. They can cram a lot in half a day. Ryman Theater was next on the list, previous home to the Grand Old Opry. While the Opry has been moved to a newer building, they do still hold concerts at the theater. Had I any interest in country music, I could have seen Vince Gill that evening. David Crockett w...
Adventure Traveler: End of Another Ride
http://kevinknieling.blogspot.com/2009/11/end-of-another-ride.html
Monday, November 16, 2009. End of Another Ride. 779 Miles – Florence, SC to Myrtle Beach, SC. The area around Myrtle Beach, SC, ever catering to tourists, had three visitor centers within an eight mile stretch. They were all legitimate visitor centers, not just someone that put up a visitor center sign in an effort to get you in the door and then sell you some poor quality tee shirts or other tourist kitsch. I have seen that all too often the world over. Posted by Kevin Knieling. Reflection on the Ride.
Adventure Traveler: BIG Day!
http://kevinknieling.blogspot.com/2008/11/big-day.html
Saturday, November 29, 2008. At this time of year, at this location, it is probably light enough to get safely on the water at 6:15ish. While we didn’t quite make that, we did get a jump on the day shortly before seven. Having been a warm night made it far easier to get going than had it been in the 20’s. Barge traffic was steady throughout the day, seeing one every half hour or so. With the exception of one barge we saw while sitting on the shore eating lunch, all barges were heading north. I ca...The d...
Adventure Traveler: November 2009
http://kevinknieling.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
Wednesday, November 18, 2009. Reflection on the Ride. There were some roads in poor shape as well as those that had heavy traffic and no shoulder, but the overwhelming majority were in great condition. There too were far more dog chases than I would have cared to have, but again I made it out unscathed. All in all, the conditions for this ride were as close to ideal that I could possibly hope for in a long distance ride. Posted by Kevin Knieling. Monday, November 16, 2009. End of Another Ride. As I rode ...
Adventure Traveler: February 2010
http://kevinknieling.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Tuesday, February 9, 2010. Taxes and Your Ideal Competition Weight. Is there going to be a new tax on weight? Possibly, but that is not what I am thinking. In reading an article in the New York Times, “Slimmer Doesn’t Always Mean Fitter”, which can be found here. I couldn’t help but notice the similarity between a persons ideal athletic competition weight and tax revenue. Graphically the Laffer curve is generally represented similarly:.
