My 1968 Mustang Restoration: November 2008
http://my68mustang.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 23, 2008. Adios Old Mustang, We Hardly Knew Ye. Except for the engine and transmission, I've done all that I can (or want to) do. It's time to put her in the capable hands of a trusted, trained, and experienced professional for the heavy-duty work. After checking out the local vintage Mustang scene here around Chicago, soliciting advice from some of its members, and a couple of shop visits, I've decided to outsource the rust exorcism to Mustang Restorations in Dundee, IL. Chris will take...

My 1968 Mustang Restoration: February 2009
http://my68mustang.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, February 7, 2009. My Car on 'Skid Row'. Someone just informed me that Chris at Mustang Restorations has posted a video on YouTube about what's going on at his shop and it just so happens that my car is the first one he talks about. He taped it a few weeks ago, so it was before the flooring work was done, but it's definitely a hoot! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Back in the Day. Re-living the glory days? Clinging to the past? To see how it all started. Small Block Ford Engine. My Car on Skid Row.

My 1968 Mustang Restoration: Mmmm. Smells Like New Sheet Metal
http://my68mustang.blogspot.com/2009/03/new-sheet-metal.html
Wednesday, March 18, 2009. Mmmm Smells Like New Sheet Metal. Last week Chris at Mustang Restorations sent me these progress photos basically showing almost everything ripped down to the bare bones. I showed these pics to my wife and she couldn't even figure out what was what:. I was so anxious to get out there with my camera and snap a whole bunch more, but by the time Saturday morning had rolled around, the rear wheel wells, fenders, and rear light valence had been firmly secured in place. Nah It's just...

My 1968 Mustang Restoration: January 2009
http://my68mustang.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Saturday, January 17, 2009. Even when you know it's coming and even if you're paying a lot of money for it (so you should expect it), there's a sense of reward and excitement when you see things like this unfold in front of your eyes for the first time. I'm not much of a runner, but I'll bet when you're running a marathon, there are a series of feelings that you get as you reach each mile marker. There's so much more to do, and so much more money to be spent, but these milestones are important.

My 1968 Mustang Restoration: Visiting Hours
http://my68mustang.blogspot.com/2008/12/visiting-hours.html
Sunday, December 14, 2008. Just like you would visit your wife in the hospital if she was having reconstructive surgery, it was time to take a Saturday morning and pay a visit to the shop. As you can see from the photos below, the critically-important structural work is well underway, including tearout and reconstruction of the front and rear torque boxes and inner rocker / frame rails. It's been over 25 years since I've been able to do that. It was cool. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

My 1968 Mustang Restoration: Someday Has Arrived
http://my68mustang.blogspot.com/2008/11/beginning.html
Tuesday, September 9, 2008. I bought this 1968 Mustang convertible during my sophomore year at the University of Michigan (1978) for $250. The odometer hit 100,000 miles on my way home that day. Until 1983, it was my ride thru the end of graduate school at the University of Illinois. I always held onto it, survived occasional temptations and the wife's suggestions to sell it for a few hundred dollars, thinking that someday I might want to yank it out of there and see what I could do with it. Nah It's jus...
