How I Became an Engineer. And I'm really hoping that it's the right approach. My friend Dennis used to claim that he was born at a very early age. I, however, had been told many times by my mother that I was not. I never knew what to do with that; I still don't, but it always felt true. It seems like it should be meaningful and relevant somehow. Who knows. Anyway, another friend in New Orleans, David Spain, got me hooked on carpentry in the late 1970's and early 1980's. I loved working as a carpenter.

How I Became an Engineer. This bad-guy model of success is competitive and competitive/cooperative. Competitive implied a winner and at least one loser. Hopefully, I win, you lose. Of course, there is only one me, and everybody else has to lose for me to win.
