This 40-minute mix, recorded during a 1977 Nu Sounds party thrown in the park at P.S. 127 in Elmhurst, Queens, is an incredible document from an early era of hip-hop with astonishingly few surviving live recordings. The mix, the MC’s beer pitches, and the slang are all amazing. This is an absolute gem. Hass718 also has a bunch of others rare recordings on his soundcloud.

Most of the attention thrown towards the band focused on Michael Milosh’s uncannily feminine contralto and the lyrics, as self-awarely sexy as they were vulnerable. A big group of us, all home from college, took the train out to see Built To Spill headline the Siren Music Festival on Coney Island. AstroLand was disassembled and put into storage five months later. Jon was talking about that day a few nights ago. He said he remembers it being the “most allergic” he had ever been.
