Mad Dogs and Weathermen | Raskin's Rhetoric
https://bennyraskin.com/2012/02/12/mad-dogs-and-weathermen
Bartender. Writer. Mensch. Mad Dogs and Weathermen. Posted by Ben Raskin. February 12, 2012. Hunting man, they say, is the most dangerous game. Do you understand what I am talking about? I bring up my manhunt of Damon for two reasons. One, I used to like putting him on the spot when I ran into at the supermarket and watch his eyeballs do a slot machine trying to remember how he knows me. Not so easy to remember that tab now, Pal. Two, is there a bigger bullshit job than reading the weather? With that sai...

Raskin's Rhetoric: Notes From Behind The Bar: Douche Bags, Zombies and Regrets
http://raskinsrhetoric.blogspot.com/2011/11/notes-from-behind-bar-douche-bags.html
Tuesday, November 15, 2011. Notes From Behind The Bar: Douche Bags, Zombies and Regrets. If he was the lead in a Saturday Night Live sketch, Loren Michaels would say tone it down. He was over six feet tall with broad shoulders. He was sporting a frosted-tipped buzz cut, tattoos covering his bulging arms and a cross the size Jesus of Nazareth carried up Golgotha. In the end, what do I care? Is that they are not going away. It seems like every weekend the droves of homo D. Are increasing in both numbers an...

Raskin's Rhetoric: The Number Game
http://raskinsrhetoric.blogspot.com/2011/10/four-deep-at-bar.html
Tuesday, October 11, 2011. I am darting between the beer taps, my well and the register cash-n-carrying for the umpteenth time the same guy ordering a beer and shot. I have two thoughts going through my head. One, is this the first time these people have ever stepped foot in a bar and two, why didn’t I go to law school? I casually look at my watch and let out a quiet sigh. It’s only 10:30? And when did people’s club clothing become a cross between urban camouflage and a circus clown? One of the piano pla...

Raskin's Rhetoric: Trick Or Treat: The Four Rules of Halloween Costumes
http://raskinsrhetoric.blogspot.com/2011/10/trick-or-treat-four-rules-of-halloween.html
Tuesday, October 25, 2011. Trick Or Treat: The Four Rules of Halloween Costumes. I poured her a shot of Wild Turkey 101 and added it to the corporate credit card. She warned everyone that she could drink everyone in the bar under the table and we should be careful. Sounded like a wager. Thank God, Johnny Electric walked in shortly afterwards to answer the challenge. Or she is leaving me. There is nothing worse than getting to the party in your costume and have everyone come up to you and ask, “So, ...

Something to Smile about...: February 2009
http://janell4424.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
Something to Smile about. Thursday, February 26, 2009. Weekend at the Farm. Last weekend Jessica and Zach came down and we went with some friends down to Holden, UT to hang out at Jake's families Dairy Farm. We did all the things you would normally do on a dairy farm, milked the cows, feed the calf's with a bottle, rode the biggest horse ever, shot some rabbits and got crapped on by a cow. It was actually a really good time! It splattered of course, and I can now say I've been pooed on by a cow. Nichole ...

Raskin's Rhetoric: Lessons Learned From Roadhouse and Cocktail
http://raskinsrhetoric.blogspot.com/2011/11/lessons-learned-from-roadhouse-and.html
Thursday, November 3, 2011. Lessons Learned From Roadhouse and Cocktail. Before opening The Woodshed, I used to joke to myself that the only employee handbook I would ever have would be two DVDs. One would be a copy of the 1988 classic, Cocktail. Starring Tom Cruise, Bryan Brown and Elisabeth Shue. The other would be the stunning 1989 masterpiece, Roadhouse. What was I thinking? I would have been better served if I glimpsed at Wall Street. Or I don’t know, hired an accountant. On a loop and I never would...
