Thinking Critically about national government. Tuesday, July 1, 2008. Commentary on classmates blog. I really enjoyed reading this post,( from vue point blog. Friday, June 27, 2008. As if the issue of taking someones life due to a crime they committed is not enough, now many people who are in support of the death penalty must also ask themselves upon what grounds is it justified. Is it reasonable to execute someone who committed murder , but let the child rapist off the hook? Maybe it is the fact that I ...

Katelyn's Government Blog: Pentagon Re-Thinks Top Military Leaders

http://www.kgov101.blogspot.com/2008/06/pentagon-re-thinks-top-military-leaders.html

Thinking Critically about national government. Thursday, June 5, 2008. Pentagon Re-Thinks Top Military Leaders. Http:/ www.nytimes.com/2008/06/06/washington/05cnd-military.html? This article proves to be very interesting because although the content might be discouraging ( the discovery that nuclear weapons are not being handled extremely carefully) it is encouraging to hear that action is being taken against it, and solutions are being found. Katelyn's Government Blog: death penalty ?

http://www.kgov101.blogspot.com/2008/06/death-penalty.html

Thinking Critically about national government. Friday, June 27, 2008. The issue of the death penalty is a still very debatable amongst US citizens, although from a supreme court level it is illegal except in cases of murder and those who commit crimes against the state. Recently the supreme court ruled that it is illegal to sentence someone to the death penalty for the crime of raping a child. Is it reasonable to execute someone who committed murder , but let the child rapist off the hook? Maybe it is th...

Democracy Inaction: The Root of All Evil

http://rjlieffortusg.blogspot.com/2008/06/root-of-all-evil.html

Wednesday, June 18, 2008. The Root of All Evil. Politicians are constantly looking for ways to fix the ever mounting problems that the country faces and it is wasting time and money because they are going at it wrong. 8217;s problems are like a weed and you don’t kill a weed by attacking leaves, you need to attack the roots. Education is the root of. Education has become a tool for limiting students as opposed to being a launch pad for their success. Teachers are forced to cover only a set curriculum for...

Democracy Inaction: Accountability in Government

http://rjlieffortusg.blogspot.com/2008/06/accountability-in-government.html

Friday, June 13, 2008. The New York Times editorial "Raising the Bar at the Pentagon" applauds Defense Secretary Robert Gates's removal of two high ranking officials in the US Air Force. Even though he has only held his position for eighteen months, Gates has already done more to hold powerful members of policy responsible than just about anyone else in. I hope that Mr. Gates continues to uphold the basic American code set up in the Declaration and that others follow his example. Mr Gates may have just t...

Democracy Inaction: Comment on Colleague's Blog

http://rjlieffortusg.blogspot.com/2008/06/comment-on-collegues-blog.html

Monday, June 23, 2008. Comment on Colleague's Blog. The blog “ Congress is Unfit to Solve the Nation’s Problems. 8221; by my colleague is something that I can almost fully agree with. The obvious ineffectiveness of Congress to manage national issues with our country’s population diversifying could be countered by increasing local powers. If we would allow local lawmakers to run the areas that elect them so that their focus of keeping their voters happy can be put to good use. Different business codes and...

Democracy Inaction: It's a Different Country?

http://rjlieffortusg.blogspot.com/2008/06/its-different-country.html

Monday, June 9, 2008. It's a Different Country? Paul Krugman discusses in his New York Times editorial “ It’s a Different Country. 8221; how racial division has faded from a tool used by the Right to gain power in. And that its fall has opened the doors for Sen. Obama to gain his position as the Democratic nominee. This idea is based on Krugman’s point that the racial division of the country has finally faded enough to allow for a candidate that breaks the traditional mold. The idea that electing a black...

Democracy Inaction: Comments on "Death Penalty?"

http://rjlieffortusg.blogspot.com/2008/07/comments-on-death-penalty.html

Wednesday, July 2, 2008. Comments on "Death Penalty? I see no fault with the death penalty. I think that it is appropriate and superior then paying tax dollars for a murdering convict to live out their life with three squares and a cot while programs like education go under funded. In my opinion, if the death penalty is on the table for a possible punishment, then it should be used. And for that reason I find myself in full agreement with your article “ Death Penalty? Democracy Inaction: Why can't they marry?

http://rjlieffortusg.blogspot.com/2008/06/why-cant-they-marry.html

Friday, June 27, 2008. Why can't they marry? I’ve never seen the justice in the case against gay marriage. It seems un-American to withhold a right of free expression that does no harm to other groups, and gay marriage is not a threat to any group in. And certainly is not a threat to the institution of marriage. Marriage once represented a bond between a man and a woman as a way to tie together the two individuals as they use their relationship to continue the species. In the end, marriage is a right tha...
