This means that people (I don’t have any numbers) are losing their jobs. We at the press are fortunate in that we’ll be able to hire someone new on a permanent but part-time basis to replace one of the people we will soon be losing. We can replace one but not all. publishing as systematic? | Kristin Lawrence on life and scholarly publishing

https://khlawrence.wordpress.com/2008/03/25/publishing-as-systematic

Kristin Lawrence on life and scholarly publishing. A mix of musings from Kristin Harpster Lawrence. March 25, 2008. Thanks to Amy Buckland for sending Effects of Editorial Peer Review: A Systematic Review. My way. It’s from 2002 and was cited in a blog by Heather Morrison. I’m not surprised that there was nothing concrete showing the benefit of peer review. (Anyone know if there is now? Is there anything systematic about publishing? How do you even go about showing the benefits? Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

will work for books: May 2010

http://janawillworkforbooks.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Will work for books. Thursday, May 20, 2010. This essay has been sent around, linked to a lot by those in publishing, and I'm sorry for the repeat; I believe even Jana has linked to it! However, it explains the economics of pricing e-books and why Amazon would make the moves it does wrt cloth copies and pricing. Here. It explains the debate on pricing from the publishers' POV. Wednesday, May 19, 2010. E-books, pricing, availability, frustration redux redux. To combat (I imagine? E-book version: $12.99.

will work for books: The first two books in the bibliophile series by Kate Carlisle

http://janawillworkforbooks.blogspot.com/2010/11/first-two-books-in-bibliophile-series.html

Will work for books. Thursday, November 11, 2010. The first two books in the bibliophile series by Kate Carlisle. Rating (on a scale of 1-5, with 5 being best). Comments: Extra points were given to the plot category for setting the series in the world of book restoration. This series reminds me of Evanovich's Stephanie Plum. Mystery series. It's pretty goofy, but not quite as over-the-top ridiculous. It helps that the main character is actually good at her job. If Books Could Kill. My mind on books.

Will work for books. Wednesday, September 29, 2010. Detroit 187 and Homicide: Life on the Street. I was a huge fan of Homicide: Life on the Street. A few reviewers have noted that the new show Detroit 187. Is very similar to H:LotS. Here are similarites/homages from the pilot alone:. 1 Two guys searching for a shell casing in an alley. Joke is that they find many possibilities. This scene appears in both the first and last ep. of H:LotS. Have to see more. Fears for the Detroit show: will be too schmaltzy...

Will work for books. Monday, June 28, 2010. Do any of the book community sites have an iPad app? I don't find the iPad app store very easy to browse- for one thing, they don't list enough apps per page so you're forced to keep paging through the list rather than just scrolling down. I've tried searching specifically for the sites I know of, but haven't had any luck. I typically use Goodreads. But they don't appear to have an iPad app (just iPhone/iPod). I also couldn't find an app for LibraryThing.

Will work for books. Friday, November 29, 2013. SPEAKING FROM AMONG THE BONES: A Flavia de Luce Novel by Alan Bradley. When they finally saw the light, I might even become something of a village heroine, with banquets, etc. held in my honor, with after-dinner speeches by Father, the vicar, the bishop, and, yes, perhaps even by Magistrate Ridley-Smith himself, thanking me for my dogged persistence, and so forth. I believe Daffy referred to such an extravagant outpouring of praise as an encomium.
