Broken Phone — Artwork by Kiarash

A cracked phone found in the recycle bin. Its screen plunged into the darkness, yet the remainders of light powered by crippled technology did not seize to find its way out. The display blinked and the colors bled. The light emitted by the broken pixels was exposed on a photographic film. The film was scanned and printed. The moment of dysfunction was documented and presented in scale, forever accessible for the viewer to explore. Untitled project - in progress. An Intimately Implosive Conversation.

There is dialectic in most conversations but a more common version is arguments between partners who aren’t trying to understand as much as to just argue. This project is a set of diptychs followed by their story. I think of body modification as a right, I see my body as a canvas for art. I'm not afraid to show off my skin, because I'm comfortable being who I am and with the decisions I've made, as should everyone else. The choice of the art work, however, is not accidental and is meant to reinforce the political component of the piece. The posters talk about policing the police, or turning around against the system. This message finds its conceptual parallel in the physical implementation of the sculpture where the wall piece is strapped to a traffic sign, blocking the original writing and replacing the administrative instructions by a powerful spontaneous response.
