Killy Birder: March 2015

With a patch and a passion for nature. Tuesday, 31 March 2015. Early Spring Action on Patch. Following what can only be described as a mild winter, the winds and some very cold days of early spring meant that the seasonal change wasn’t that noticeable. As we headed into March bird life on the lake remained virtually unchanged, although there was noticeable signs of several species perhaps preparing to move on, and certainly some interesting display from several species. A pair of Great Crested Grebe.
Killy Birder: May 2015
http://killybirder.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
With a patch and a passion for nature. Wednesday, 27 May 2015. An evening in the sun at Prestwick Carr brought us some good warblers and a very pleasant walk, but our patience was best rewarded by the stunning sight of a male Redstart. Back lit by the sun. The offer of a lift up to Druridge Country Park allowed Sam and me to spend the day in the area and walk down to Creswell Village. The area is much more than just being about birds. Calling and Common Whitethroats. Was found sitting on a nest. We had b...
Killy Birder: Eating Bees
http://killybirder.blogspot.com/2015/08/eating-bees.html
With a patch and a passion for nature. Wednesday, 5 August 2015. Not surprisingly that is exactly what the Bee-eaters were doing at the Brampton Quarry today, eating bees. Surprisingly, considering the damn awful weather of late there appeared to be a plentiful supply of bees. Perhaps less surprisingly when you hear that a local Bee-keeper has delivered three hives to the site. I’m hoping that a good proportion of the £5 goes to the RSPB or conservation in some form or another! Never the less little acti...
Killy Birder: Sky Watching
http://killybirder.blogspot.com/2015/05/sky-watching.html
With a patch and a passion for nature. Wednesday, 20 May 2015. We ventured out on to patch this evening as the storm clouds slowly moved out eastwards across Blyth Valley and out to sea. Out on the high open farmland we were able to watch the changing cloud formations, at times a darkened leaden blue hue above the Oil-seed Rape which was lit by sunlight from the now relatively clear western sky. Climate change has meant records of warmth and wetness are there to be broken. The calls of Meadow Pipits.

Natures Moments: January 2013

Saturday, 12 January 2013. Just finished my dinner as I looked out of the dining room window to see this fella looking for his,he is quite a patient chap always allowing me time to get the camera from the bag ,open the back door and fire off a few frames. He was unlucky today as the Goldfinch gave him the slip. His new strategy now is to walk along the fence looking into the beech hedge to see who if any are hiding before going in after them. Wednesday, 9 January 2013. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). NZ271982: December 2014

Wildlife Watching in Druridge Bay. Sunday, 28 December 2014. This bird (QEII Lake) did its best to keep on the wrong side of. The light. Might need a few trips inland next spring to get a decent shot. Also worth a visit. Today the Peregrine sat in the field, a magnificent bird and although there was little else on show it was a treat. Maiden's Hall Lake is still losing water but the Geese are enjoying the grazing around the edges. Monday, 22 December 2014. Not much action on the bird feeders? I bought th...

Brunswick Birder: March 2015
http://brunswickbirder.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Monday, 30 March 2015. It's about time that Newcastle joined (what seems like) every other city in the UK by having a breeding pair of Peregrine Falcons in the City Centre. Newcastle's population of feral pigeons won' t know whats hit them. Literally! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Hello my name is Gary and I live in Brunswick Green, Wideopen. I have been birding on and off for the last 40 years or so. I don't have a patch as such I just go where the best chance of seeing some good birds is.

Birdwatching and Photography by Mick and Sylvia Brennan. Thursday, 16 October 2014. The Migration continues slowly. Tuesday went north of the Tees and managed to see Brambling, Goldcrest, and Jack Snipe. Thursday went south of the Tees and managed another Red-breasted Flycatcher, Merlin, Woodcock and the first Redwings of the Autumn, unfortunately the weather was too bad to hang about for the Firecrest at South Gare so hope it hangs around. Birdwatching and Photography by Mick and Sylvia Brennan. Sunday, 30 March 2014. This Greenfinch was very angry when the Redpoll came to the feeders at Saltholme last weekend. Yesterday we had our first Wheatears at Kildale along with lots of Meadow Pipit. It was nice to see the Red Grouse so close to the road and not at all bothered. The Little Owl was sitting out as we passed on our way home which made an excellent end to a lovely day. Links to this post. Thursday, 13 March 2014. Links to this post.

With a patch and a passion for nature. Tuesday, 13 March 2018. Double Day.Ducking, Diving and Plodging at Druridge and Lindisfarne. The road down to East Chevington North Pool has been done no favours by the recent severe weather. More potholes than ever and pre-existing small ones have grown. The whole area looked badly hit by the weather. Happily spring was once again in the air and the sounds that greeted us on arrival was the calling of Reed Buntings. And calling geese, in the main Pink-footed Geese.
