THE LORDSHIP and BARONY OF KILMARNOCK. The 29th Baron of Kilmarnock is EUR ING David Ayre, BA BSc BSc(Hons) MSc DMS. He is an Ulster-Scot. And a European Chartered Engineer. A time-served electronics engineer, he was a Controller in Scotland's North Sea oil and gas industry for over a quarter of a century. His four British university degrees were gained whilst working in the industry. David is a committed Member of the Convention of the Baronage of Scotland, is a Scottish Freemason.

THE LORDSHIP and BARONY OF KILMARNOCK. Dean Castle was known as Kilmarnock Castle until c1700. It was described by Pont in Dobie's Pont's Cuninghame, pp. 292-3:. Killmernock Castle, it is a staitly faire ancient bulding arysing in tuo grate heigh towers and bult arround courtewayes vith fyne low buildings. It [sic] is veill planted and almost environed vith gardens, orchards, and a parke. . .". An arrow indicates the site. In 1735 the Palace was gutted by fire and was abandoned for nearly 200 years. ...

A sergeant in the King's Own Scottish Borders Regiment, was born in Wanlockhead. Dumfriesshire, at 1531 feet the highest village above sea-level in Scotland.
