My association with the primal aspect of clay as. Along with my desire to connect with the history, traditions, and the materials necessary for the production of ceramics, to include earth, fire, air and water, has led me to write my own kiln god myth, create kiln god/dess themed performance pieces, and finally to make kiln god/dess sculptures. China from the South China Sea Collection. Very often, when an artist is working on a collection or body of work that evolves around and idea or theme, a related, but new way of seeing the work will present itself. This new insight often leads the artist into another stream of thought that then leads to a body of work based on this new scheme. This is what happened to me while I was working on my Hong Kong/Shangri-La seacoast pieces. South China Sea Series. South China Sea Series.
glass
http://www.kilnlore.com/glass.html
Glass Vessels and Sculptures. Glass is a material that is closely aligned to ceramics, and it is not uncommon for many ceramic artists to have an interest in it. A gorgeous material that occasionally appears under various extreme circumstances in the natural world, glass is a substance that, like clay, can produce objects that run the gamut from functional works that express humble organic intentions to artifices that soar in their visual and spiritual splendour. South China Sea Series. Vessel’s Shaped Through Teaching:. My career as an educator who has taught in many types of institutions, both in the US, and abroad has shaped my styles and methods of working with various types of clays that are fired under diverse conditions. I enjoy teaching ceramic techniques from high-fired porcelain to raku. I pride myself on being able to adapt to a myriad of ceramic processes and I enjoy producing ceramics that are either electric or gas fired.

HEART, ART & SOUL: Art in the Sky: PISTILS
http://joelferraris.blogspot.com/2009/06/art-in-sky-pistils.html
HEART, ART and SOUL. For an artist like me, heart (emotions) and art (intellect) are co-equal in the lower plane of life. This balance could only be achieved and maintained by the nourished soul (faith and spirituality) hovering above, for faith, unlike the Sword of Damocles, brings hope and salvation in many forms. A parallelism in marriage makes the covenant with God the Father Almighty the strong link between spouses. JOEL E. FERRARIS SKY GARDEN SCULPTURES (Thanks to My Manila Blog). November 23, 2010...

Travel for artists Art for everyone. Sunday, February 15, 2009. My roots are shallow and travelling is part of my life". Quote from the writer Anthony Sattin here. Photo from the Mekong Delta for a photo-essay, I've Got my Eyes on You. PS: "If I knew what was going to happen, I wouldn't need to write it. The middle way, where you have a focus and a trajectory, is the happy way and the best editors understand this." Anthony Sattin. I am going to pin that final quote to my forehead! Travel for artists Art for everyone. Tuesday, February 10, 2009. Part painting, part photograph: it's a hand-tinted print. When I decided to hand-tint blueprints for the Hong Kong book. I knew that there would be some puzzled reactions: is it a painting or a photo, or something in between? For centuries, hand-tinting has been a common way to enhance black-and-white photographs. One question I'm often asked is: "Are these your photos? I would never work directly with another artist's images. Your reading ...

travel-artist: Vietnam Week 5: Hanoi
http://elizabethbriel.blogspot.com/2008/08/vietnam-week-5-hanoi.html
Travel for artists Art for everyone. Sunday, August 31, 2008. Vietnam Week 5: Hanoi. The highlight of my time in Hanoi actually took place outside of town: a birthday party for Anh Khanh. He owns a piece of land 50km outside the city, and a few dozen friends planned to celebrate the night drinking rice wine, barbequing, and dancing to a DJ after Khanh's performance. I'd met him a few days before, so he'd invited me along. Khanh performing on one of his gigantic sculptures. Follow me on Twitter.

Travel for artists Art for everyone. Tuesday, June 16, 2009. Sand in my Laptop. My coconut-wood hut on Koh Mak island. Some photos from a quiet island. Deserted beaches during the slow season are a great way to experience the pace of island life. Koh Mak's flat horizon bristles with palm and rubber trees, and down its sealed roads drive its quirky inhabitants. Some live there all year; most split their lives between Koh Mak and elsewhere. Almost none were born there. Off-season beaches get half the sun a...

travel-artist: Northern Papers
http://elizabethbriel.blogspot.com/2009/03/what-do-elephants.html
Travel for artists Art for everyone. Saturday, March 07, 2009. And ducks have in common? They're all a part of the papermaking industry in northern Thailand! Here I'm learning to make paper with the Green family, near Lampang. It's been a whirlwind of 3 weeks of south-to-north travel; research in dusty libraries; making paper in under hot tin roofs; and deciphering Thai handwriting to sort out what fibers make up the papers between my fingers. travel-artist: Home away from home
http://elizabethbriel.blogspot.com/2009/03/home-away-from-home.html
Travel for artists Art for everyone. Sunday, March 01, 2009. Home away from home. It's always good for a chronic travel artist to have one or two familiar spots as touchstones during an extended trip. Here's a selection of photos from my favorite pied-a-terre in Bangkok, The Artists Place. View from my room last week, on the "Penthouse" a.k.a. rooftop. Hot summer winds whistled through three walls, it was the breeziest room I've had there yet. The Artists Place is in Thonburi. Double as door handles.
