Kimberley's reviews: Haruki Murakami - After Dark

http://kimberleystarrreviews.blogspot.com/2007/12/haruki-murakami-after-dark.html

Saturday, 29 December 2007. Haruki Murakami - After Dark. From the beginning of this sad, brilliant little novel, the city after dark is a creature that seems to live, breathe and pulse. Between the time the last train leaves and the first train arrives, the places: it’s not the same as in daytime, Murakami’s narrator tells us. But what is it? In the closing pages, morning approaching, we are offered some sort of solution,. Is this enough of an explanation? Posted by Kimberley Starr.

Kimberley's reviews: August 2007

http://kimberleystarrreviews.blogspot.com/2007_08_01_archive.html

Thursday, 30 August 2007. Begins with the apparently coincidental gathering of father, son, chiropodist and chiropodist’s narcoleptic husband in a café and - there is no other word to do it justice - explodes from there. It’s physically a heavy book, with bright white pages (the colour of mourning in China! And death’s face grinning, almost consolingly, on the cover. If history is a sick joke, we are asked on the cover flap, then who is telling it? These are all from one page! Posted by Kimberley Starr.

Kimberley's reviews: July 2007

http://kimberleystarrreviews.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html

Monday, 23 July 2007. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Preliminary review, as I only read it yesterday, (except, for reasons I'll make clear, I may not bother ever considering it further):. The quotes that begin this book tell how seriously JK is telling it as she invokes the authority of no less than Greek tragedian Aeschylus’s. Grinding scream of death. Or a challenge he will face? This might be a diversion but it won’t take long. I am your father, Luke. No, Voldemort has already gone much too far...

http://kimberleystarr.blogspot.com/2013/04/a-morning-in-writing-life-of-anxiety.html

Tuesday, 9 April 2013. A morning in the writing life of an anxiety-struck second novel novelist. This morning, I planned to work on my WIP. So far, instead, I have:. 1 read a chapter in "Writing 21st Century Fiction";. 3 considered creating a blog post concerning why my thoughts seem to be coming out in lists;. 4 created, instead, an unpublishable blog post about plotting or pantsing, during which I (mostly) discouraged myself with the reminder that it's very possible to fail at either;. Can so relate to...

Kimberley Starr: March 2011

http://kimberleystarr.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

Thursday, 3 March 2011. J ate his tooff. He didn't taste it. Does that make it okay? He's a very lovely boy who hardly ever uses his teeff to bite anything (except food) so we think his tooff should be pretty valuable. He promises to give it to you later if it turns up (anywhere). Please let him have $2.00 anyway and he will be especially careful not to swallow his next one. Posted by Kimberley Starr. Wednesday, 2 March 2011. Getting back into things. I'm back in Australia! Takes as is premise the idea that the First Crusade (year 1098) was inspired by demons who wanted to get a holy book of their own to Jerusalem. It tells the story of Luca, a young Italian knight who is one of the only people who can see demons, and Suzan, who is the last speaker of the dying language the book is written in. The Book of Whispers. The answer is, a notebook!

Thursday, 11 April 2013. How many words per day? Over the years, I've collected rumours about how much writers write. I used to think this was for inspiration. So, what has inspired me? On a positive note, today I've written 600, which is well above average. Even more if blog posts count. If I ever meet Stephen King, I'll have to ask. Posted by Kimberley Starr. Sunday, 28 September 2014. The One with That Guy. Prowling a Kyoto evening search of the world's best Indian food (where else would you go? I was walking down Kiyamachi Street, Kyoto, with That Guy. Oh yeah, the food wasn't that special, and I also saw the Golden Pagoda. Breathtaking, really. Surrounded by squealing photographers. I could have been excited enough to faint. Posted by Kimberley Starr. Saturday, 27 September 2014. KyotoWhat is the collective noun for butterflies? I'll fix it when I get home).
