Sunday, 1 March 2015. Static maps from CartoDB. Quite a bit recently to create interactive maps. My Historic Buildings of Scotland. Map and my England Grade I Listed Buildings. Map have both proved popular. Another map that received lots of traffic was my English Greenbelt. Shows you how - though you may need to disable pop-ups in your browser if it doesn't work. This tool opens up the static map in a new browser tab so if nothing happens check your pop-up blocker settings. View the full size. Ed Ferrari...

under the raedar: Where is all London's new housing?
http://www.undertheraedar.com/2015/06/where-is-all-londons-new-housing.html
Monday, 22 June 2015. Where is all London's new housing? Some of my recent work on housing markets, mortgage lending and housing search has led me to consider the question of where, exactly, London's new housing is located. On a recent visit to King's Cross I was amazed by the sheer scale of development, particularly all the new flats. Because I've been working with the data for another project - and recently re-examined it for a project proposal which explicitly didn't. Clearly, the mix of new housing -...

Sunday, 12 July 2015. Mapping the Polycentric Metropolis: journeys to work in the Bay Area. I’ve recently been writing and thinking about polycentric urban regions, partly because I’m interested in how places connect (or not) for one of my research projects, and partly because I’ve been experimenting with ways to map the connections between places in polycentric urban regions. There was quite a lot of the latter in Peter Hall and Kathy Pain’s ‘ The Polycentric Metropolis. Of UC Berkeley. Also, a paper.

under the raedar: England's Green Belt - 'Closed' Data
http://www.undertheraedar.com/2012/01/englands-green-belt-closed-data.html
Sunday, 15 January 2012. England's Green Belt - 'Closed' Data. It seems that, for whatever reason, Landmark Information Group have the rights to the data, as you can also see from this BBC map. The problem is, I was quoted a price of £35,000 VAT for the full dataset. I've nothing against Landmark but I couldn't figure out why it would be so costly or why it is not open data. In England, this is quite important. Clearly, I'm not a normal person or I would be doing something else at this time of day/week.
under the raedar: The beating heart of the City of London
http://www.undertheraedar.com/2015/06/the-beating-heart-of-city-of-london.html
Wednesday, 3 June 2015. The beating heart of the City of London. I've had a rush of blood to the head so here I am with a second blog in two days. I'm getting some slides ready for tomorrow's Modelling World 2015. This interests me for a number of reasons, including i). Commuting can play a significant role in wealth creation and it also needs to be understood in relation to how we measure GVA; ii). Commuting can often be environmentally damaging - though this isn't what I'm mapping here; iv). For the id...

Wednesday, 3 September 2014. A national map of cycling to work. I've recently being doing some visualisation work with the newly released Census commuting data. From 2011. I've produced maps of all travel to work. And travel by car. Go to the full size version. This data comes from Question 41. Go to the full size version. NB Why didn't I include Scotland and Northern Ireland? The data are not out yet. It's not some ploy to exclude anyone and I know the blog title says 'national' so forgive me if tha...

Tuesday, 12 May 2015. The 2015 General Election: London Results. The perennially excellent London DataStore has published. Comprehensive, accessible and usable data on the 2015 General Election. So, naturally, I had to make some maps of it. There probably isn't anything. About this election that hasn't been mapped but since my last blog. Was a General Election piece I thought I'd do a little follow-up, with not a hexagon in sight. There have been quite. That's Blockbusters' - for Labour. Which has been o...

The ramblings of a wannabe poetess and musician. Wednesday, December 4, 2013. It is true that there is an ‘Indian time’, but the definition is not what most people think. It is the absence of time, no watch or clock will tell the sun to come up or go down… and so it is with the soul of Native people who will not be constrained by artificial means. In fact, I had to ‘un-learn’ the white world’s way of always asking questions! Is all that keeps you with me now. The visions of you. The contrasts of you.

Scanning Electrochemical Cell Microscopy (SECCM). I’m an electrochemist/mathematician/software engineer. I study nanoscale electrochemical systems, such as single living cells and nanoscale batteries. I did an undergraduate and masters in Computational Modelling at the University Of Otago, New Zealand.
