I'm back in Houston for an old colleague and friend's wedding. Here's the lowdown, so far, à la The New York Times. The wedding is not too long and not too short. My friend looks beautiful in her dress that we've seen before but only on the computer screen. She looks like she is made of wax, in a good way. For the wedding reception. My parents go se...

Sunday, February 26, 2006. Cool Little Green Peas. When I stopped off at the Japanese specialty food store last evening (yes, on a Saturday, believe it or not) to pick up the green tea powder I need for a recipe, I ran across these roasted Kasugai Wasabi Peas. I would never have thought I would like peas as a "snack food." Well, I guess there are exceptions to everything. I opened them while driving to my next destination and by the time I arrived, these were all that were left in the bag. Welcome to my ...

Sunday, October 30, 2005. Garlicky White Bean and Shrimp Soup. My choice was a wonderful bean-based soup that I adapted from a recipe of another of my favourite chefs. Unfortunately, I overcooked the beans a bit (overcooking things seems to be a recurring theme lately) so I really. Had to wing it, far beyond my original intent. Luckily, all turned out well. Okay, let's get it goin'. Here’s what I did. Garlicky White Bean and Shrimp Soup. 1 pound (about 2 1/2 cups) dry small white beans soaked overnight.

Saturday, December 10, 2005. Back In Stride Again. On my list of "hot" restaurants, for some reason little kids just go wild with excitment for this place (I think it's the unlimited desserts). In the end, it really didn't matter. My little girls totally enjoyed themselves and we all had a great time just being together, so it was all good. Having those moments on film more than makes up for the lack of photos, so that's kool. Posted by Lynne J. At Monday, December 12, 2005 5:46:00 AM. Thanks, chica....

Sunday, January 22, 2006. Reminiscing of Berries and Yoghurt. When I picked up the Blood oranges at the market the other day (see previous post), nostalgia overwhelmed me and I grabbed a couple of containers of fresh blackberries. Now I have no problem paying for things that I desire, particularly when they happen to be my favourite. Things, but I couldn't help thinking that I now have to pay a few pretty pennies for something I once took for granted. Mint Scented Blackberry and Pistachio Yoghurt. Welcom...

http://mixed-masala.blogspot.com/2005/10/for-shrimp-pasta-wine-lover-in-me.html
Sunday, October 16, 2005. For the Shrimp, Pasta and Wine Lover In Me. I've been thinking of pasta and shrimp in garlic sauce all week, so this evening I experimented a bit and made it happen. I didn't follow a particular recipe, per se. I pretty much winged it, relying on my memories of a couple of cooking programme demonstrations. The sauce didn't turn out quite. This was simple fettuccine with garlic, shrimp and butter sauce, which most seasoned cooks are probably well acquainted with. It was very ...
