A Dental Warning | The Scrogs Blog
https://scroggins.wordpress.com/2009/06/19/a-dental-warning
Work and travel in SE Asia. If you have a weak stomach, you might want to skip this post. Six months later, my receding gums have gotten noticably worse on one tooth in particular. Yesterday, I took a day off work to visit a periodontist at the best hospital in Hat Yai – about an hour away. What followed was not a pretty scene. The periodonist confirmed that I have advanced receding gums and that a gum graft will be required! So what is to be learned from all of this? Up strokes will damage your gums.

Update from Bahrain | The Scrogs Blog
https://scroggins.wordpress.com/2009/10/04/update-from-bahrain
Work and travel in SE Asia. Sorry for the delay, folks. I’ve had loads of free time the last two months (since finishing my degree! But in all honesty I’ve just been lazy. But I think I’ve earned that right. The last time I wrote I was choosing between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, and complaining about a painful gum graft. Well, here’s how things stand now:. I decided to take the job in Saudi Arabia and have spent the last two months basically waiting for all the documents to be ready. Kim. It has sometimes ...

WordPress swallowed my pictures. | The Scrogs Blog
https://scroggins.wordpress.com/2009/05/18/wordpress-swallowed-my-pictures
Work and travel in SE Asia. WordPress swallowed my pictures. Seriously. I don’t know what went wrong, but there was some sort of crazy malfunction. If you happened to visit my blog within the last couple of days, you probably saw text spewed across the page with pictures everywhere and columns in completely random places. The problem. Nok is attacked by a wave while attempting to cast. She did manage to catch a few small fish and even a crab! Scroggins and Hagatha up in a tree! By the way, Im not sure wh...

Decisions, decisions… | The Scrogs Blog
https://scroggins.wordpress.com/2009/08/10/decisions-decisions
Work and travel in SE Asia. Decisions, decisions…. After 14 long months, I am finally free! Without question, this last year has been the busiest time of my life, as I completed 16 classes (15 plus a CLEP exam, actually) all while teaching full time. It’s been three days now since I finished my final class, and I still can’t quite understand this feeling of not having any books to read or papers to write – what will I do with all this free time? I will know for certain next Friday. From your own site.

One More Year | The Scrogs Blog
https://scroggins.wordpress.com/2010/10/28/one-more-year
Work and travel in SE Asia. Today marks my 27th birthday, which seemed like as good a day as any to revive my long slumbering blog. It has been more than a year since I posted an update, and perhaps fittingly, my entire Saudi adventure is notably absent from these pages. It is likely better this way. 18 was my year in Oregon, and it seems like an eternity ago. 19 was the year of my six-month trip to India and Nepal, with brief stops in Thailand and Korea. The goal is to teach only until I can begin an M&...

Work and travel in SE Asia. May 15, 2009. Mouthrot was one of the many giant Singapore cats that Nok and I befriended on our most recent trip to visit the ‘rents. Mouthrot earned his name thanks to his sparse and strangely brown-colored teeth. He also drooled steadily, which was disturbing considering the state of his mouth. He enjoyed many a feast courtesy of Nok and me from the leftovers we carried from the nearby hawkers. At this point I’m already applying for jobs and will likely be heading to ...

Nakhon Sawan’s Giant Hilltop Temple | The Scrogs Blog
https://scroggins.wordpress.com/2010/11/08/nakhon-sawans-giant-hilltop-temple
Work and travel in SE Asia. Nakhon Sawan’s Giant Hilltop Temple. The next night we tried again, and after some aimless wandering through the seemingly haphazard streets of Nakhon Sawan, we found what appeared to be the road to the top. I had attempted to post these pictures on Facebook a month ago, but due to a horrendous Internet connection I was unable to do so. But here they are at last; my apologies for the delay. The initial view from the top. Approaching the giant hilltop temple. Nakhon Sawan by ni...

Life in Kamphaeng Phet | The Scrogs Blog
https://scroggins.wordpress.com/2010/10/31/life-in-kamphaeng-phet
Work and travel in SE Asia. Life in Kamphaeng Phet. So what exactly is it like living in Kamphaeng Phet? I haven’t yet spent any great deal of time here yet, but I can see the place has its positives and negatives. At 32,000 it’s a tiny city by Thai standards, but huge on a Maine scale. Thankfully the city itself is quite condensed, so a brief ride on the motorcycle gets you into some pretty rural areas. I will continue writing on a daily basis, as writing is my true passion and creative expression is a ...
