View my complete profile. Sunday, 13 June 2010. Almost a year from when I last saw one, a bullfinch came to feed on geraniums in the front garden. The photo is taken using through the window of the living room. The camera complained about possible handshake if I zoomed in too much, so I'm quite pleased with outcome considering. This week has been the RSPB. A couple of dunnocks made an appearance - they don't feed on the bird feeders, presumably preferring insects. House sparrows - at least 8 at once.

View my complete profile. Sunday, 6 June 2010. Normally it is quite rare or me to spot a wren in the garden, but today there was one hopping around and singing loudly. Eventually I spotted that it was building a nest in one of the nest boxes in the garden. As usual, there were several goldfinches attracted by the niger seeds, and lots of house sparrows on the other feeders. As it turned out the weather kept dry (unlike today) but gloomy. We are firm believers that taking an umbrella or mac means it is less likely to rain - and that if it does one can ackowledge the fact comfortably from within one's waterproof cocoon. Come in, sit down and stay a while. Sunday, 27 February 2011. Today I noticed that we now have a golden crocus among the snowdrops. A rich buttery yellow, it adds some real presence tot he garden. The snowdrops announce the end of winter; the croci herald the more imminent arrival of warmer days and new life. Already the world is lighter earlier in the morning and I hear the mutterings of birds in the branches outside the window. Soon I will be complaining about the racket, but for now it is a joy.
