KirklandZoo: January 2009
http://kirklandzoo.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Not a very active blog about life and living in the Pacific NorthWest (all pictures are clickable). Tuesday, January 20, 2009. A New PreZident - a Good Man. Today was a good day - in many ways. The eight years of Bush Jr. finally ended. Not a day too late. He should never have been elected to the office, but one can only say that "a people get the politicians it deserves". To be noted as well: The White House web page. Links to this post. Tuesday, January 13, 2009. Finally - a TUNNEL deciZion. A tunnel i...

Not a very active blog about life and living in the Pacific NorthWest (all pictures are clickable). Monday, August 10, 2009. Since this was such a big news in the media, I just have to mention it here as well. We got rain! Actually a mini soaker. Not that it shouild be strange, but what was strange is that we went for soooo long w/o any noticeable precipitation. Think we were up to close to 90 days or so, and that is rare in Seattle, especially early summer. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
KirklandZoo: AmaZing Fly-over...
http://kirklandzoo.blogspot.com/2009/08/amazing-fly-over.html
Not a very active blog about life and living in the Pacific NorthWest (all pictures are clickable). Friday, August 28, 2009. Just got back from walking the the dog. As we were talking to a neighbor up on the hill, a Korean Air 777 slowly passed overhead - very low altitude! Cool in itself, but this one was followed by TWO small (fighter? Jets tailing it just by the tailwings. Very cool scene. And, did I carry the camera? No, of course not. Gotta buy that smallish Canon! I told them I doubted it was, and ...

Not a very active blog about life and living in the Pacific NorthWest (all pictures are clickable). Thursday, February 26, 2009. More Znow - a bamboo emergenZy. Woke up this morning to more snow. What's really up with the weather? But after over two weeks with really sunny and warm weather, maybe it was payback time. But why does this little snow force closure of schools? Or cancellation of garbage pickup? Can this be a "regional" emergency (apart from for the bamboo, of course)? Links to this post.

Not a very active blog about life and living in the Pacific NorthWest (all pictures are clickable). Sunday, May 17, 2009. One of many reasons for living in the PNW is the great celebration of Syttende Mai in Ballard. This year was no different with wonderful weather, an active parade and just a festive atmosphere, surrounded by friends and Norwegians? Links to this post. Sunday, May 10, 2009. Kirkland 5K and Half-Marathon. Truly amazing and yet another reason we we love this place! Links to this post.

A little blog about a remodel project. There are lots of pictures so page might load a tad slow. All pictures are clickable for larger views. Monday, March 30, 2009. Heating and insulation underneath. Routing the rigid duct and mounting it was not too tricky, after that we insulated it and built a box around it. Also added an electrical conduit for futre outside lights (easier to do it now than to put an ugly one on the outside). Box is taking shape. See, bend is gone, hidden. Thursday, March 26, 2009.

KirklandZoo is Building: First pieces of siding
http://constructionzoo.blogspot.com/2009/08/first-pieces-of-siding.html
A little blog about a remodel project. There are lots of pictures so page might load a tad slow. All pictures are clickable for larger views. Wednesday, August 12, 2009. First pieces of siding. Due to the fact that we are not doing just a "squarish" window trim (and caulking the hell out of it), it did take some time to get the trim in place, and then even longer to cut the first strip of siding (on the left side of the window). After that, it was fast to put up the remainder. And possibly overkill, but ...

A little blog about a remodel project. There are lots of pictures so page might load a tad slow. All pictures are clickable for larger views. Monday, August 3, 2009. A tad early (no phone call alarting me, and I was having a nice cup of coffee, reading through the Sunday and Monday papers after a weekend "off-line out on the lake), the big yellow truck showed up with our new siding. Exciting to see how the color REALLY turned out. A small sample of only a foot does not provide any real guidance. And the ...

Prepping for tiling - Cement boards. Actually, had to take almost every one out on Sunday and counter sink them in order to get a proper surface - even though Hardie's instructions tells you not to, but I refuse having screw heads being clearly above the surface - makes setting tiles impossible! At least some is done. Tuesday, May 12, 2009.

A little blog about a remodel project. There are lots of pictures so page might load a tad slow. All pictures are clickable for larger views. Friday, July 24, 2009. Chimney flashing bent and ready. In an effort to properly prep the old fascia boards, I did remove the gutters, as well as the flashing that was installed with the new roof in November. Big difference when you actually have proper access to the work area. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Flashings, small but needed inexpensive details.

With me having an inherited disgust for drywall, I realized that the "finishing" of said products was not really up for me. In comes Ben, who some long time ago had promised to give me a hand with the taping and mudding. Clearly an expert and it looks like a "whole different place". From a different angle, different profession. I thought ...

A little blog about a remodel project. There are lots of pictures so page might load a tad slow. All pictures are clickable for larger views. Wednesday, July 29, 2009. Flashings, small but needed inexpensive details. Looking over the flashings at Plywood Supply (my cedar siding supplier), and not finding what I wanted/needed, I was happy yesterday to locate a company litterally up the street, Fast Flashings. That can bend my small pieces to protect the house from the dreaded water intrusion. Every constr...

A little blog about a remodel project. There are lots of pictures so page might load a tad slow. All pictures are clickable for larger views. Thursday, June 18, 2009. Against the will of the wife, I did tackle the chimney removal today. She was not happy when coming home and seeing the basement full of crushed clay tiles and cinderblocks, but the tone changed when she got upstairs and realized I had finished up in the living area - and cleaned up everything. Why remove the chimney? And, with the chimney'...
