Witnessing God's Time Unfold in Cairo. Monthly Archives: October 2014. October 30, 2014. One of the things I love best about Egypt is the way relationships are valued. There’s a sense that the person in front of you right now is the most important person. And whether it is someone you have known forever or … Continue reading →. In memoriam: My brother, Simon. Witnessing God's Time Unfold in Cairo. Interruptions of Ministry →. Why do I love Cairo? August 5, 2014. During our recent visit to the States to see friends and family, we were asked many times, Do you like it in Egypt? I always answered yes, which is 100% true. Sometimes, though, its hard to explain just why I do like it. A friend, also an expat who arrived just a few days after us last summer, is writing an article about expat life in Cairo. It’s dirty and crowded. As sunset approached, the tables wer...

Witnessing God's Time Unfold in Cairo. Easter is a season. World Refugee Day →. Dreams of a son. June 10, 2014. Below is the reflection I shared at Joseph’s memorial service last week at St. Andrew’s (with a few tiny revisions). These day dreams carried me through the long days of bed rest and filled me with hope in spite of the frustrations that came with things not going perfectly well. I rested and I dreamed, in hope that I would carry this child to term. This entry was posted in Uncategorized. Thinki...

Witnessing God's Time Unfold in Cairo. Dreams of a son. Why do I love Cairo? June 20, 2014. Today is World Refugee Day. We keep our eyes open for these little things, signs of hope, promise, light in the midst of darkness. We dream of a day where there won’t be a need for World Refugee Day because peace will reign in every land. Until then, we listen to stories. We learn from one another. We work for justice and pray for peace. This entry was posted in Uncategorized. Dreams of a son. Why do I love Cairo?

Beyond Question: Why do you doubt? | Soul Wiggles
https://soulwiggles.wordpress.com/2013/03/25/beyond-question-why-do-you-doubt
A place to ponder the awe and mystery of God in everyday life. Beyond Question: Why do you doubt? He said to them, “Why are you frightened, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? It seems to me that Christians have often confused doubting with questioning. My first training was in medicine. In that field, like in any of the science fields, students are rewarded for questioning. Questioning leads to deeper understanding, and that is always a good thing. My most recent bike.). A few years later I married ...

A place to ponder the awe and mystery of God in everyday life. A darling little boy ready for baptism in our new latino ministry. A place to ponder the awe and mystery of God in everyday life. May God make your year a happy one! Not by shielding you from all sorrows and pain,. But by strengthening you to bear it, as it comes;. Not by making your path easy,. But by making you sturdy to travel any path;. Not by taking hardships from you,. But by taking fear from your heart;. Not by granting you unbroken sunshine,. But by keeping your face bright, even in the shadows;. Not by making your life always pleasant,. When an alcoholic goes t...
We Ain’t Poor | Soul Wiggles
https://soulwiggles.wordpress.com/2013/08/04/we-aint-poor
A place to ponder the awe and mystery of God in everyday life. We Ain’t Poor. Sermon preached at Faith Lutheran Church, Janesville, WI on August 4, 2013 by Pastor Anne Andert. 8220;We Ain’t Poor”. Alan and Elsie Sinclair were poor by many standards. They lived in a small, drafty broken down trailer home. They wore old, patched hand-me-down clothing. Yet they graciously and generously shared with us from what they had. In the evening as we sat around their modest kitchen table we guessed at what we were e...
There’s a Woman in the Pulpit: Christian clergywomen share their hard days, holy moments & the healing power of humor | Soul Wiggles

A place to ponder the awe and mystery of God in everyday life. There’s a Woman in the Pulpit: Christian clergywomen share their hard days, holy moments and the healing power of humor. With a clergy husband, I had a pretty good idea of the life of a pastor. Or so I thought. The implications of this are truly significant. While nearly all clergy struggle with loneliness and isolation, the health impact on women is even greater than that of men. It is difficult for women to thrive in congregational ...Someh...

An attempt to do more bloggable things. Thursday, March 27, 2014. I remember thinking that when we left for Philly, Brooks would still be a baby, but when we were all done, he would be a toddler. Well, it's official, this boy is definitely a toddler. It's crazy how fast the time has gone, and how much he has changed. People are constantly commenting on the size of his eyes! Watch out, ladies! Brooksie's opinions are becoming easily identifiable these days! He also still LOVES the pacifier. It's becom...

Witnessing God's Time Unfold in Cairo. Waiting on Election Day. November 8, 2016. Advent is still officially a few weeks away. But I often think that, here, we are in a state of perpetual advent. A state of waiting. A state of hoping. A state of watching for signs of the in breaking of God’s vision for the world. I find myself turning to Ephesians 2 this morning:. Please, pray. And love. Love, love, love. In memoriam: My brother, Simon. July 25, 2016. Kirsten and Simon, Fall 2013. And people die waiting.

Friday, February 15, 2013. Yesterday was VERY long. Lots and lots of airplanes. Honestly never want to ride in one ever again after today, but I'll have to return back to America. Hopefully going back I won't get nearly as sick as I did on the 13 hour flight. I got INCREDIBLY sick to my stomach near the end to the point I was sure I was going to throw up. Sorry guy ; ;. Oh well, didn't stop me from buying Lee Min Ho and Song Joong Ki magazines while in Korea! We also ran into performers at the mall!
