This WordPress.com site is the cat’s pajamas. Posted by Kirsten McKinney. Asymp; 3 Comments. High rise apartments in Hong Kong. Photo by Micheal Wolf. Two different articles caught my eye this week in regards to climate change and population. The first is a series of photographs by German photographer Micheal Wolf entitled The Architecture of Density. The second article is a series of infographics also related to population density. Limoncello P.2 | Kirsten McKinney

Posted by Kirsten McKinney. Asymp; Leave a comment. The second phase of the limoncello making literally gave me a nightmare. I woke up convinced I was going to strain out the lemon zest and mindlessly pour the vodka down the drain. I did not pour the vodka down the drain. But while I was focusing on carefully straining out the lemon zest, I turned my back on the boiling lemon juice/syrup mixture, which of course, boiled over. Larr; Previous post. Next post →. It’s the little things. Posted by Kirsten McKinney. In Art and Spirit. Asymp; Leave a comment. Every morning I turn out a light before heading out the door for work and I see this, a print given to me by my brother and a little yellow bird. The print is called “Sharing Next to Plants” and is by one of my favorite contemporary artists, Scott Campbell. The bird, which I bought at The Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, VA is by artist Lisa Schumair. Posted by Kirsten McKinney. Asymp; Leave a comment. Over the p...
Making Limoncello | Kirsten McKinney

Posted by Kirsten McKinney. In Kitchen and Garden. Asymp; Leave a comment. We grow a little lemon tree on our patio, keeping it in the shed over winter. I credit Neptune’s Harvest Organic Fertilizers. For our great haul of lemons this year. I’ve used a few since they’ve turned yellow and even though I picked a dozen for this recipe, there are still 7-8 left on the tree. Found there, along with some tips from other users. Many users say they preferred using a vegetable peeler to create the zest, but I hav...
Washing Wool | Kirsten McKinney

Posted by Kirsten McKinney. Asymp; Leave a comment. Last fall I purchased a lovely fleece from Tuckahoe Lamb and Cattle Co. A regular vendor at the St. Stephens Farmers Market. It is a very clean Border Leicester fleece that I have been really excited about washing. I don’t know why, maybe it’s the scent, maybe it’s the process, but I love washing fleeces. I started by spreading the fleece out on a sheet and picking through, looking for any plant matter or matted, dirty wool. Larr; Previous post. Enter y...

Work is important to me. I like work – I LIKE to work. In the garden, in my house, on a drawing, with wool, with yarn, with food. How I work and what I work on defines me. I’m working on a lot right now, but mostly on bringing daily meaning into my life outside of the day job. This is a place where I’ll share the work. 8211; Studs Terkel. 8211; William Morris.
