Kirsty Brooks

Wednesday, July 14, 2010. He showed such courage I guess, that he won the heart of the best girl in the place, and the beautiful white finch, Polly, became his girlfriend, occassionally rolling him over, feeding him, sitting with him, fighting off bullies and generally making his life so much more excellent than i ever could. Listening to: meditation CDs. Watching: Masterchef - which is the weirdest thing - I hate tv, cooking, sometimes even food. I've even been cooking. Reading: 'Redbird' by Rick Bragg.

Kirsty Brooks: July 2007

http://kirstybrooks.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html

Friday, July 13, 2007. And he couldn't stand up. He didn't look like Charlie anymore. He seemed grey rather than brown, and all the well, fluff and vavoom had left him, he also seemed a bit flat (it's alright, I didn't roll on him in the night) and his eyes were tiny from having sunken back into his head). I don't mean to write one of those 'Dear Diary' type of posts because that wasn't the point of having a blog but today I just had to. Sorry to all the non-bird people. Links to this post. You’re in a p...

Kirsty Brooks: August 2007

http://kirstybrooks.blogspot.com/2007_08_01_archive.html

Friday, August 24, 2007. I am sad today because my parent's dog, Jem, has been diagnosed with T-cell Lymphoma. She is such a good dog. I feel like everyone is sick these days. Here she is at the million paws walk with my excellent niece, Sophie. I still miss Charlie every day. Anyway, I put my pillow down to read and she jumped right onto it,. I think it's the main reason I put Hellhound in my books, she's such a great dog I wish she was real. Posted by Kirsty Brooks at 9:25 am. Links to this post. Anywa...

Kirsty Brooks: Reading, writing and finding you.

http://kirstybrooks.blogspot.com/2008/07/reading-writing-and-finding-you.html

Thursday, July 31, 2008. Reading, writing and finding you. 1) Everyone who responds to my blogs emails me directly. I don't know why, but I think I have shy readers. Anyway, thank you. I'm not making this up. It's a curiosity shop in my head. Cold here. I guess, however, that like New York (my comparison), it is nicer in winter than in summer. and smells nicer (still NY). Lullaby for Cain' sung by Sinead O'Connor and my canaries. They are amazing! Um leftover MarsBar slice. And Frousse (strawberry).

Kirsty Brooks: October 2006

http://kirstybrooks.blogspot.com/2006_10_01_archive.html

Tuesday, October 31, 2006. The Jaguar and my excellent dad. Here are some pictures of my dad and his friends and their cars. Dad and a friend restored his Jag over a year or two. The car is amazing. When you travel in it, it's like being a rock star because people stop and stare. Anyway, enough about cars. Drive carefully and as my mum would say 'There are madmen on the roads'. She drove to Brisbane and back with her friend Dave Sag. To research the book. Here is an extract from the book and some quotes she found particularly poignant as she struggled on that epic trip across the continent with the curse of too much enthusiasm and more than a little bad luck. Word Fodder: Invisible

http://wordfodder.blogspot.com/2011/01/invisible.html

Monday, January 17, 2011. How do you tell a child that their Grandma has gone? You wont see her again, hold her hand or hear her song. Laughter wont be shared and milestones will be missed,. By the woman who loved you so much, who you rushed to kiss. Grandma isn't here to spoil you, she has taken her lollies too. She wont be here to brush your hair or be interested in you. But where is she? You ask and I don't know what to say. I don't have an answer, please just turn back to your play. Ah this sounds so...

Word Fodder: Word play

http://wordfodder.blogspot.com/2012/08/people-playing-with-words-makes-me-smile.html

Friday, August 3, 2012. People playing with words makes me happy. Especially when its on display, where hundreds of people will see it. This frying pan is in Ikea. This play could be considered tampering with property, graffiti, or criminal damage. But that inclination to play with authoritarian signs, is evidence of a strong human spirit that will and does endure. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). More words I read. Alone on the isle. http://wordfodder.blogspot.com/2012/03/autobiography-in-five-short-chapters.html

Sunday, March 18, 2012. Autobiography in Five Short Chapters. There's a hole in my sidewalk. I walk down the street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I am lost …. I am helpless. It isn’t my fault. It takes forever to find a way out. I walk down the street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I pretend that I don’t see it. I fall in again. I can’t believe I am in this same place. But, it isn’t my fault. It still takes a long time to get out. I walk down the same street. I see it is there.

Music | Kirsty Bromley

Kirsty is a young contemporary folk singer based in Sheffield who draws upon a wide range of traditional music. She has a most disarmingly transparent voice, but also the uncanny and beautiful knack of drawing attention to the song rather than the messenger, by the manner in which she employs it. Her Debut Album Time Ashore features original songs as well as carefully curated folk gems. Switch to mobile view.

Pivotal to her work is the manipulation of an image, typically screen printed and combined with a variety of glass processing techniques including sandblasting and etching to produce a final piece responding to the history or functioning of its surroundings. The Brighton Marathon 2013. April 28, 2013 by kirstybrown. After another year training through the cold, winter months I completed my fifth marathon in the city of Brighton this month. After a windy, rainy day on the Saturday I was relieved to see sun on race day as I headed down to the start. The atmosphere was amazing and the first half went by in a flash. The last 13 miles was a struggle but the route along the coast was inspiring and the crowds and my fellow runners lifed the spirits. Fast-forward to...
