Wednesday, July 27, 2011. Rain On Our Parade. This mornings section of the trail was miserable. Last nights rain gave us a very slippery rock and tree root covered trail. Jay slid and fell pretty hard on his side at one steep spot and has scrapes and bruises to show from his encounter with Bemis Mtn. Tuesday, May 31, 2011. We once again planned to try the early hiking to avoid the heat and once more failed. But we did much better than yesterday morning and were on the trail by 10 am. Ultimately I was glad because those few hours between hearing the alarm at 4:30 am and just snuggling back under the blanket, hoping Jay would do the same, were the most refreshing. Quit their jobs, packed up all their belongings, and set out to conquer the Appalachian Trail for three months. They've been hiking for a little over a week now, carrying on their backs only day-to-day needs.
