Wednesday, July 19, 2006. A poem about stumps. I wrote a poem about the characteristics of stumps after reading Wessels chapter 3 for my reflection. Lara asked me to share it, so I decided to post it here:. Flat stump left to stand. Remnant of logging past. From flames, thick wood saves. But high value from loggers. Will be your demise. No moss for Hemlock. Acidic tannins in bark. No fungal decay present. Low carbs and water. Wood inside is strong. Sapwood dies before heartwood. Birch, Maple, Beech rot.

Reconnecting and giving advice. Our escape from the crowd. Of the woman continuously bathing. Who keeps us mesmerized. And of nights in the hallway. With witches above who can no longer haunt us. Eventually we must part. The frozen faces wait for us. We know we will return again. To our room of memory and love.

Thursday, July 27, 2006. Yesterday we did another stake-out. We stayed in the same general areas that we have covered the day before. On our way out to the property, we stopped at Ace and bought 2 salt blocks. We put on in front of each camera, hopefully something cool will come by to lick it! Today we spent the morning conducting interviews. Then we went to the Warren Farm. We interviewed Randy and Heather. I really like them! Randy has some great stories! Tales of Adventure-Summer Institute 2006. Monday, July 24, 2006. Off Roaders for Bush! One of my favorite bumper stickers! Today we saw some people Jeeping through the beaver pond-though all motorized vehicles are prohibited. If I saw them tomorrow I'd give them a can of Natty Ice to let us strap our 20 foot canoe to their roof. We get to haul a huge canoe to the one mile to the pond tomorrow for our water depth survey. Friday, August 04, 2006. I had a good time presenting. My favortie part was when everyone clapped when we revealed the Moose picture. My classmates also seemed to enjoy our picture of Donald Rumsfeld looking confused. Kat did an excellent job preparing and presenting the Life History of Moose. Here Alyssa is pointing out all of the places that we rode bikes and hiked around trying to find Moose. It looks a lot less buggy and wet when it's a map on the wall.
