Octal Aha Moment: kitkatlj

I finally had an octal "aha" moment. Driving home I worked on some mental math, figuring I might have to convert decimal, octal, hex, and binary numbers around if a bitwise operator question appeared on my intro to programming midterm. (Yes, the professor is that tough a tester.) First I slowly worked through octal-55 to decimal. Then I slowly worked through decimal-45 to binary-101101. Next I realized I might have to convert octal to binary. Oh my! But didn't the professor say it was easy?

I feel like the act of keeping my maiden name for life is an expression of a part of my identity. I am an upper-middle-class feminist. I belong to that community. And change-worthy, but familiar, parts of my personality. I am the most important person in my life. Its hard to let go of those and embrace a relatively unfamiliar sense of self. Hard to step into a skin I cant yet verbalize, and dont know if Ill ever feel as comfortable in as my old skin. I get sad when I look at the paperwork.
