Over on Instagram, people are participating in "one year of stitches". You commit to working on a piece a little bit every day, sharing your progress every once in a while; and at the end of the year, you post your "big reveal". I'll be posting my results here from time to time, too. PS Happy new year! May you all have joy and success in 2017. My words for this year are harmony, love and success. Peace to you all. :). Whatever your reason for the season, may it be merry and bright. So it's been slow going.

World Watercolor Month - Day 21 | Kit Lang Art

http://kitlangart.blogspot.com/2016/07/world-watercolor-month-day-21.html

World Watercolor Month - Day 21. Back to basics - errr. bunnies, I mean; today my focus was on that "Spend 50% of your time drawing, your painting will never get better than your drawing". So I spent at least 50% of my time drawing this little one, and I think both the painting and the drawing turned out rather well. But the little bunny (one of many I see on my bike ride into work most days) is quite lovely. I just wanna smooch his little face! July 25, 2016 at 11:50 AM. Find me on Facebook. Back to bas...

World of Threads, Part 3 | Kit Lang Art

http://kitlangart.blogspot.com/2016/12/world-of-threads-part-3.html

World of Threads, Part 3. Well, I didn't say. Monday I would post, did I? Last part of World of Threads, this from the second site; The Living Arts Centre in Mississauga, Ontario. This piece is by Alexander Hernandez called "Leopard Beard", and is embroidered applique on satin. This piece is by Barbara Bryn Klare, called "Modern Sampler". BSP found it very amusing, I found it quite moving - both of us agreed it was a tale of a broken heart. This piece is by Barbara Rehus of. Jennifer Petus, of Aurora, Co...

Still working on it... | Kit Lang Art

http://kitlangart.blogspot.com/2016/12/still-working-on-it.html

Still working on it. As you may remember, I was working on machine stitching on bark a little while ago. I've been doing more work on this project, including, as you can see here, some hand stitching. Although this is thin bark, it's quite difficult to get through by hand, (who knew? So it's been slow going. I work on it for an hour or two, and when my hands can't take it anymore, I put it away for a week or two. Lol I'm punishing it for hurting me! Did you see the moon last night? Find me on Facebook.

World of Threads, Part Two | Kit Lang Art

http://kitlangart.blogspot.com/2016/11/world-of-threads-part-two.html

World of Threads, Part Two. First up, this striking piece by Belle Shafir, called "Samsara". Not apparent in this photo is the slight sense of menace or imminent danger this piece gave off. It was disconcerting to walk in front of it, but worse as you passed it and it was behind you. I thought it was just me, but my companion said the same! I've felt lots of things from fiber art before, positive and negative, but menace was a first! I liked it very much just the same though. I was very taken by her entr...

Making progress on my...surprise! | Kit Lang Art

http://kitlangart.blogspot.com/2016/12/making-progress-on-mysurprise.html

Making progress on my.surprise! Ever since a friend of mine had a baby (about a year and a half ago - lol); I've become somewhat obsessed with starlings, as the baby's middle name is "Starling". I have no idea whether or not they had a. Starling in mind, or whether they even had a bird in mind (! But a European starling immediately popped into my head. It will probably be the beginning of a new bird series focusing on the birds of Ontario; but in the meantime, I've got to finish this one! Amazing that th...

Living to work - Working to live: Using PVA as a resist

http://livingtowork-workingtolive.blogspot.com/2012/04/using-pva-as-resist.html

Living to work - Working to live. Gallery 1 - Textile Pieces. Tuesday, 17 April 2012. Using PVA as a resist. PVA Resist is a technique that I guess is best described as batik without the wax. Again, I found the technique described in Sew Wild, the book Daughter had bought me for my birthday. Of course the flip side to this is that I had to leave the fabric to dry over night! The wax dries almost instantly). Then when it had dried I applied Dy Na Flow paints liberally with a soft brush. On this sample you...

Blue Tree Studio: March 2014

http://bluetreestudio.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

Art quilts by Angela Welch. Sunday, March 30, 2014. Is Tree #5 turning into a UFO? At what point does a work-in-progress become a UFO? I started Tree #5 with great eagerness, but it has been languishing on the design wall lately. To me, a project becomes a UFO when I start to dread it, rather than feeling excited about it. So I'm trying to recapture my excitement for this project! Here's an inspiration photo I took of a sycamore. The Columbus Modern quilt guild. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Kit Lang - Art.

sea horse quilts: December 2012

http://www.seahorsequilts.com/2012_12_01_archive.html

Saturday, December 29, 2012. Converging Corners Bee Block. I’m not much of a fan of log cabin quilts – or at least not of making them, but I like this way of log cabining. I made this (late) Bee block for Muriel. The tutorial for this block is here. On Film in the Fridge’s website (using some of my favorite laurie wisbrun fabric…). But I hope I get to see the finished quilt, too. I think it’s a log cabin that I will like! Hope you have fun (and safe) plans for this next New Year’s weekend. I finished the...

Saturday, March 28, 2015. Greetings from Orange County California! Seahorse Quilts has fulfilled a decades old dream and moved closer to the ocean. The next day we were camped out at my sister’s apartment in California with my niece and now while Tink plays with her new friend (my niece’s guinea pig Bubba), I search for a new job and try hard not to get too distracted by the sunshine. Friday, May 10, 2013. From Canton Village Quilt Works online shop – probably one of the best sources for Kaffe fabric, I purchased some black and whites to add to my stash. From Robert Kaufman Night and Day 4 – Contemporary Floral Collection – those feathers, delicious mums and dandelion-like flower fabrics (they don’t seem to be named, only numbered) and the black and white cameras from Boys Toys Collection. Living to work - Working to live: The meaning of Arches

http://livingtowork-workingtolive.blogspot.com/2015/08/the-meaning-of-arches.html

Living to work - Working to live. Gallery 1 - Textile Pieces. Thursday, 6 August 2015. The meaning of Arches. I was round at Rob and Andys the other day ( they of the incredible shed. Just chatting over a coffee and generally catching up, when Rob pointed out that I used arches a lot in my work. And it's true, I do. Here is the latest 'Alzahara reimagined' piece. There are now 3 of these. So he was straight onto Google looking up the Symbolism of Arches. There's a lot to get my teeth into there! Arches a...

Art quilts by Angela Welch. Wednesday, February 11, 2015. A fully fused top! I've completed fusing the top for Tree #7. Next I need to piece together a backing and do the basting. But first, I have to face the mountain of snippets on the studio floor. That's one drawback to this method- the snippets are threatening to take over my apartment! March 5, 2015 at 6:13 PM. Scroll down to content. January 28, 2018. January 28, 2018. This weekend I tried something new in my photography adventure. I recently got a soft light box and wanted to practice lighting from different angles and work on a technique that has never been a part of my toolbox. Next I want to experiment with focus stacking as well as just practice my focus technique. Until next time. January 19, 2018.
