Kiwiscout Walks Aotearoa : July 2013
http://kiwiscoutwalksteararoa.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html
Monday, 29 July 2013. Hammock thruhiking New Zealand on the Te Araroa Trail. I know this isn't the usual or normal piece of gear in New Zealand, but I am going to hammock camp as often as I can while completing the Te Araroa Trail. I've read about one tramper, Jacob. Who took a hammock, so I know I'm not the only one! I get a fantastic night's rest in one. I've been using a Warbonnet Blackbird. For almost a year continuously now, even indoors (! Instead of a bed. Weird? If you've checked out my gear list.

Thursday, 6 February 2014. Last Thoughts on Gear and the TAT. You asked for it, so here it is! My thoughts on gear, food etc after completing the Te Araroa Trail. I'll break this down by category. Shelter. While NZ has an awesome backcountry hut network, there are still parts of the TA that require you to carry shelter. I chose a hammock-friendly tarp, and even if not hammocking I would take one. Coupled with a bug net/bivy, they are super light and versatile! I used an Exped UL 7 Synmat, which worked pr...
Kiwiscout Walks Aotearoa : November 2013
http://kiwiscoutwalksteararoa.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Thursday, 28 November 2013. Days 76-82: Takitimu Forest to Lake Wakitipu. After saying goodbye to Marcie and little Carmen who adopted me overnight, Fraser dropped me back to my start point for the day. Linton Station is huge! I quite enjoyed walking through it towards the mountains. I was also impressed with the flying skills of one Top dressing pilot, who also managed to photobomb my selfie. It was a bit of a mad scramble up a steep hill. And down into a forest. It's not Everest, but I'll take it!
Kiwiscout Walks Aotearoa : December 2013

Saturday, 21 December 2013. Days 99-105: Lake Tekapo to Lake Coleridge. Speaking of which, did I mention dinner last night was given to me on the house by James at Pepes. Again, really nice guy and another example of human kindness that continues to humble me. It was a nice walk today, and I have been trying to heed advice from experienced TA walkers to slow down a bit least I break myself! As usual, the views were stunning. Oh, and another contender for Best Longdrop on the TA! After the saddle, the res...
Kiwiscout Walks Aotearoa : October 2013

Monday, 28 October 2013. Days 56-59: Where did the days go? Day 56. Given the kick-ass speed of the day before, we awoke confident that we would blaze through to Whanganui, even with a late start timed to catch an outgoing tide for the tidal section of river (20 km inland, we were told). A rare opportunity to sleep in! Day 57. A beautiful morning! A bit of resupply shopping including new socks and I was ready to go. Bila was a bit late to the meeting point (uncharacteristic for a German? On the way into ...
