Quite so: July 2005

Sunday, July 17, 2005. It's awfully predictable to rage against the assembly line-like pop music machine that spews out hits that are impossible to separate from each other. Fortunately, the golden oldies are even more available to us now than they were at their time of creation. Posted by Yngvason at 8:13 pm. Saturday, July 16, 2005. Rarely happy when it rains. My three-day holiday set off thursday evening, and after fourteen heatwavering days God chose to let the rain start to pour down while I was on ...

Wednesday, December 28, 2005. My regional government has decided to boycott Israel. I'm no fan of Sharon, but there ought to be limits to stupidity. The pragmatists in Trondheim do of course know that Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East; thus the boycott by Sør-Trøndelag fylkeskommune is going to be heard down there. Norway's role as Middle East negotiator in the future is ruined for at least 20 years. Not that it mattered that much anyway. Posted by Yngvason at 12:01 pm. The family arguments...

Tuesday, November 29, 2005. Two years ago my then-flatmate and I irresponsibly purchased Monty Python's Flying Circus on DVD. We received the box set one month before our exams. Needless to say, academic success was absent that semester. Since that time, we've split up and been stranded on different continents. For practical reasons, my mate was left with the treasure. But now, the goods are on their way to Volda. As if this weren't enough, flatmate Geir. Posted by Yngvason at 9:39 pm. My bet is it will.

Sunday, May 22, 2005. Love it or hate it; you can't ignore it. But I'm awfully tempted. Even though Romania, Moldova or Norway didn't go all the way this year, I hope for more freaks next year. Most of the artists are average, but it's the hopeless and outraging ones that make Eurovison a memorable experience. Posted by Yngvason at 7:51 pm. Friday, May 20, 2005. A most sane idol. Det e så sinnssjugt." This year's winner of Norwegian Idol is quite right. Dagbladet: How do you feel about winning Idol?

Monday, October 31, 2005. The language with the torn in its side. We should force readers of national newspapers to read nynorsk (one of the three official written languages in Norway). This is the preposterous suggestion from director Sylfest Lomheim of the Norwegian Language Council. It's sad to realise that we'll probably never be able to read Britney and Brad Pitt news in nynorsk. But some of us might admit that Aftenposten in nynorsk wouldn't feel quite right. Tuesday, February 08, 2005. Spring seems to be gradually advancing in the Norwegian community of Volda. The emergence of the green season should prompt the writing of a poem or something like that, but this is merely a test to see if this blog works. Posted by Yngvason at 4:59 pm. Anti-hero and novelist in spe. This blog is hibernating. Carnival, the Rhineland way. End of a meeting day.

Sunday, September 25, 2005. Writings on the wall. A band, two sailors from the Faroe Islands, about twenty-five average students and fifteen litres of wine. This appears to be the recipe for a decent nachspiel. The birthday wall of fame from Friday was improved upon, and the last human specimen left the scene around 7AM. Thanks for all vulgarities, compliments, aphorisms, German quotes and unsubstantiated allegations. Posted by Yngvason at 9:09 pm. Friday, September 23, 2005. Posted by Yngvason at 8:42 am.

Tuesday, August 30, 2005. Sharing an apartment with a journalist can be both rewarding and dangerous; you have to watch every step. My flatmate Lars Kristian. Was as usual keeping a vigilant eye on the dubious activities that take place at Myrane MC's first floor. Posted by Yngvason at 12:51 am. Wednesday, August 24, 2005. Another information student has wormed his way into our idyllic student village, and the counterrevolution is nowhere in sight. Journalists of Volda, unite! Thursday, August 18, 2005.

Sunday, January 29, 2006. The deadline that wasn't dead. I was sure I had a deadline tomorrow. I have around 3000 words to translate from Danish to Norwegian, which is hardly a daunting task. I nevertheless started working already yesterday, finishing about half. Now it turns out the deadline isn't until Wednesday. The motivation for a decent day's work thus vanished faster than the wine I drank last Monday. Posted by Yngvason at 3:26 pm. Saturday, January 28, 2006. Photo lifted from unofficial site.
