The Graphophonic Cueing System includes the alphabetic principle, phonemic awareness, blending and segmentation, onset and rimes, and word families. This Cueing System focuses on the making of meaning. The Semantic System is where students learn the meanings of words, discover that many words have multiple meanings, use context clues to figure out unfamiliar words, and using a dictionary or thesaurus.
