A Jayhawk in Taiwan. My adventures of Rock Chalking in Asia. Thursday, August 22, 2013. Linkou, Taipei and Danshui. Last weekend Angela and I traveled by bus to Linkou to visit a former student, Anna, of a family friend. This family friend put me in touch with Anna back in April. She was one of his students at UMKC. Anna and I had been emailing back and forth over the last few months and she invited me to come stay with her family in Linkou for the weekend. The best mango shaved ice I've ever had. After ...

A Jayhawk in Taiwan. My adventures of Rock Chalking in Asia. Tuesday, July 30, 2013. A Day in the Life. Since I have had lots of people asking about what my days are like. And since I've also had lots of people asking me if I ever actually do any work over here (the answer is yes, quite a bit of work actually). I wanted to do a post like this one. These pictures are from Thursday July 25th. 6:50 Checking to see if my laundry had tried from the night before. The view off the balcony isn't so bad either.

http://ajayhawkintaiwan.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
A Jayhawk in Taiwan. My adventures of Rock Chalking in Asia. Saturday, November 30, 2013. Thanksgiving this year was a three part affair, consisting of lots of food and good friends. Part 1: Cornel's Thanksgiving Dinner. Some of the food. Some of my kiddos who came. Part 2: Turkey Party at School. The Artists enjoying their turkey. Part 3: Palace Thanksgiving Dinner. Sign is leftover from our Canadian tuxedo party back in September. It made for a pretty ironic picture. Sunday, November 24, 2013. Making a...

A Jayhawk in Taiwan. My adventures of Rock Chalking in Asia. Wednesday, July 16, 2014. My Babies Are All Grown Up. First day of school, July 2013. July was rough, but in August I finally hit my stride. Thanks to the help of the amazing staff at my school, specifically my classroom Chinese teacher, my fumbling was less and less. Pomelos make the best hats. Playing games at the Rainbow Time studios. Posing with the school's turkey, which we later got to eat. Merry Christmas from the Artist's class! January...

http://ajayhawkintaiwan.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
A Jayhawk in Taiwan. My adventures of Rock Chalking in Asia. Friday, December 27, 2013. We had no tears and no running off the stage and everyone actually sang. I was one happy teacher! The day was chaotic, but still a lot of fun. It was so nice to see my children and their families outside of school. Working the cookie decorating station. This was my "you just ate an M&M after I told you not to" face. Some of my kiddos. King and Queen Christmas, Santa, Rudolph and lots of elves. 11 Mid-Autumn Festival t...

A Jayhawk in Taiwan: Mid-Autumn Festival, Kaohsiung Weekend and A Blast From the Past
http://ajayhawkintaiwan.blogspot.com/2013/09/mid-autumn-festival-kaohsiung-weekend.html
A Jayhawk in Taiwan. My adventures of Rock Chalking in Asia. Sunday, September 22, 2013. Mid-Autumn Festival, Kaohsiung Weekend and A Blast From the Past. Some mooncakes I was given by one of the teachers, and one of my parents, at school. More mooncakes, so delicious! T Maggie cutting open a pomello. Pomellos are eaten during the festival because they look like the moon. And it's also customary to put the peel on your head. So messy, but so delicious. I'm going to bring this look back to America with me.

A Jayhawk in Taiwan: January 2014

A Jayhawk in Taiwan. My adventures of Rock Chalking in Asia. Thursday, January 16, 2014. At the takeoff area. Around 8pm Michelle and I, along with lots of camping gear, took the HSR down to Kaohsiung, where we met Tim, Karlis and their van outside of an MRT stop. We stopped in Pingtung where we picked up Ria and her friend Jennifer. After that we were east coast bound. We're pretty positive we were the only foreigners there that night. The Sunrise Party draws thousands of people each year. As the sun st...
