Each year when I bring all of the bins that hold the family Christmas Treasures down from the room over the garage there are always a few items that I love to re-discover when I come across them. My attempt of finding them in each day. The Fair and Butterflies. We spent a lot of time walking around the Texas Discovery Gardens at the Texas State Fair this weekend. I particularly spent more time in the butterfly house. The only downside to the butterfly house is that I don't think many of these butterflies would naturally show up in my back yard. They live in very tropical climates. But they sure are pretty. I couldn't match this one up with their photos to identify it. These two went unidentified.

The Twelfth Day of Christmas is rapidly approaching which means the ornaments will soon be taken off the tree, carefully wrapped and packed away for another year. My attempt of finding them in each day. Our 4th of July. Lovey and I celebrated the 4th by ourselves this year. We still made it festive despite not having a big celebration planned with friends and family. We decorated the front porch with buntings. Put out our flag. Made a little flower arrangement. And brought out the tea towels mother gave us. We prepared food and ate like we were planning for a crowd to come over. We watched A Capitol Fourth and the New York City fireworks on TV. Taming My Spot of Ground. Thursday, June 18, 2015. Beauty in the Midst of all our Rain. We had more rain in North Central Texas during the month of May than we did all last year total. I've been afraid of losing a lot of the plants in the garden but there have been some bright spots to cheer things up. Especially the Calla Lilies. They cam back twice as big and multiplied. I believe all 5 have hatched, but they are so crowded in the nest it's hard to determine whether or not they are all hatched. Taming My Spot of Ground. Tuesday, September 2, 2014. The watermelons have proved to be disappointing. Granted, they were not planted at the right time so they have been trying to produce in this extreme heat. This little guy grew to the size of a ping pong ball and then one night, when I was too lazy to spray the deer/rabbit repellent, it was a snack for a deer. The plants haven't produced a female flower since. So much for the first try at growing watermelons. Lesson learned.plant in March!

Taming My Spot of Ground. Wednesday, September 3, 2014. Aside from totally disrupting the planting structure of my front flower bed, the accidental pumpkin patch. Has produced a fine crop. These are the first two; harvested the first week of August. They're a nice size, around 9 to 10 inches across. I don't know if they are good for cooking but I'll find out.
