The Kulas: April 2014
http://thekulas.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Wednesday, April 30, 2014. Misha had a great 9th birthday party. Of course, with Bud and Ashley around, how could it not be? Next up, let the training begin: exercises in observation (a minute to observe, then they left the area while Bud changed a few details before they return to spot the differences),. Emily and Lillie take dedicated notes. Then drawing conclusions with only the sense of touch to guide them (the cherry tomatoes got squished a few times). Jacob starts off strong. Lillie takes a turn.

The Kulas: January 2014

Tuesday, January 28, 2014. We finally made it to downtown Houston - for an exciting trip to the natural science museum. Since buying a membership was cheaper than paying the entrance fees for even a second visit, we decided to go for the membership. The museum is so great that we've already gone three times! Prehistoric elephant and crocodile. Insects in amber - just like Jurassic Park. Run, Misha, run! All the way to Homo sapiens. Onto the butterflies and insects - another big hit! So much to learn about.

Tuesday, May 27, 2014. School Success and Learning All Around. The school year is wrapping up, and both boys have been doing lots of activities, both in school and at home. Misha's second-grade class recently put on a concert (a mini musical) titled "Hats! About the different hats we wear and the possibilities there are. Misha was a smiling sensation in the front row. Your eyes are the color of the ocean.". Trying so hard to smile for the camera! The fashion show group photo. I love how "McDonalds" is no...

Thursday, July 30, 2015. To the Bat Cave, Let's Go! Ever since we discovered that we live within a few hours' drive of the largest bat colony in the world, we have been meaning to make the trip to the outskirts of San Antonio to see it. Bracken Cave is home to millions upon millions of Mexican Free-Tailed Bats. Just how many is hard to say, but some estimates claim 20 million plus! The wildflowers are beautiful! We me this impressive crab-like spider on our nature walk. Soon we could see the bats swarmin...

Sunday, April 12, 2015. Christmas with Grandma Kate. Obviously, I have a lot of catching up to do on this blog. We'll start with Christmas and get ourselves into 2015! Grandma Kate came to spend Christmas break with us. The boys loved having her around to play games with. On Christmas Eve, when the young ones were fast asleep, we made everything look just right. I asked, pulling into the parking lot. With that same smile, he said, "You guys are! Christmas morning came bright and early at 6 am when Misha ...

The Kulas: Just Fishin'
http://thekulas.blogspot.com/2015/07/just-fishin.html
Sunday, July 19, 2015. We went home. Misha was convinced that the trip was a failure, but I chalked it up to that "practice" I had mentioned. He let them go, disappointed that they were not bigger, but we were all impressed with his success. Got out in the heat and got it done . even caught some fish . I am impressed. Soon you will be fishing in the Red River! Very excited. :). July 20, 2015 at 12:05 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). About Us: Tammy and Josh. Mothering in Someone Else's Motherland.

The Kulas: December 2014

Sunday, December 28, 2014. Fall Fun and Christmas Prep. More bayou critters: a spider and a puss moth caterpillar. We had our own cozy little Thanksgiving dinner with homemade fresh pumpkin pie and a 17 pound turkey! Somehow, that turkey looked a lot smaller in the store than when I brought it home. We ended up freezing a few bags of turkey, but we have already eaten it all. 17 pounds of deliciousness. This is the first time I have ever tried making pumpkin pie from freshly baked pumpkins instead of cans.

Friday, July 4, 2014. June Highlights: Beach, Birthday, Books, Boats, Bears, and Bugs. As you can see by the title, this post is brought to you by the letter B! Shortly before the last day of school, we had a beach day at Galveston. Sun, sand, watermelon, brownies, and warm salty waves:. This vest has been great for Sebby in the water. He is starting to learn to swim, but he's not quite as capable as he thinks he is. Misha brought home all his masterpieces! I wish it wasn't so long. My brother fell a...

The Kulas: February 2014

Tuesday, February 4, 2014. The excitement of turtle watching. Over Christmas break, we took the kids and Bud and Ashley on an excursion to the bayou near us. This time, we admired the January "fall" colors, as opposed to the leafy green surroundings of our previous visit. The kids loved dashing down the trails, spotting turtles, playing among the vines and roots, and collecting leaves and fungi to put under the microscope. Sebby strolls in the leaves. The fun climbing tree. Collecting snails by the water.
