KnitGeekery: November 2010

http://knitgeekery.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

I've got a fever, and the only prescription is.more YARN! Tuesday, November 30, 2010. Last week, before all the kerfuffle about mittens arose, I started spinning up some of the Romney. Wool I'd acquired from Spunky Eclectic. The colourway is Progressions Forecast. And it spun up pretty quickly and reasonably cooperatively, producing about 125 yds of this:. Which, as it turns out, is just about enough to make this top-down lace Foliage. Monday, November 29, 2010. The epitome of snazz. In deference to the ...

KnitGeekery: Gift horses

http://knitgeekery.blogspot.com/2011/02/gift-horses.html

I've got a fever, and the only prescription is.more YARN! Friday, February 4, 2011. Last summer, Mitchell and Rachel bought me a long braid of blue fibre—8 ounces of Corriedale and silk, handpainted in the most amazingly subtle blues. I brought it home and coiled it into a matching blue glass bowl, where I could admire it while pondering my plan of attack. 1 I pulled off a tuft (about 7 grams, it turns out) and spread it open. 4 A second pass through should take care of that. Note innovative use of s...

KnitGeekery: January 2011

http://knitgeekery.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

I've got a fever, and the only prescription is.more YARN! Monday, January 31, 2011. And not a minute too soon, in my humble opinion. Granted, 12 days is not exactly an eternity, but it can sure feel like one when you're looking down the wrong end of a 425-stitch row of linen stitch. Still, I'm pretty pleased with the outcome. I was worried for a while that it might be too short, but some severe blocking took care of that; the final product measures 60" x 6". Thursday, January 27, 2011. I have to say, tho...

Geek Knitter: Once More With Shoulders

http://geekknitter.blogspot.com/2010/05/once-more-with-shoulders.html

A long ramble, looking at life through yarn-covered glasses. Monday, May 24, 2010. Once More With Shoulders. I knit lots of baby things. You all know this. Mostly sweaters, with the occasional hat and a couple pairs of booties thrown in. Every baby should have something hand-made to grow into. Something made with them in mind. Something full of hope and promise. Pretty buttons are good, and so is lace. If you can work them both into a single garment, you’re golden. Posted by Geek Knitter. May 25, 2010 at...

http://geekknitter.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

A long ramble, looking at life through yarn-covered glasses. Wednesday, March 31, 2010. The Beginning Of The End. At long long last, I have actual progress to report on another Year of Lace project. Behold Centrino, aka The Big Red Blob. I finally finished the last bit of around-and-around knitting, and have embarked on a long journey of back-and-forth-and-back-and-forth knitting. Six down, thirty to go. Posted by Geek Knitter. Links to this post. Monday, March 29, 2010. Is this thing still on? Knit at a...

Geek Knitter: An Open Letter

http://geekknitter.blogspot.com/2010/01/open-letter.html

A long ramble, looking at life through yarn-covered glasses. Friday, January 22, 2010. Dear Insecure Voice In My Head,. Why are you such a nag? What, exactly, is your problem? Why must you plague me so? Tell me true, what’s not to love? The gull lace pattern? Certainly not the buttons, or the charming model. In short, Insecure Voice In My Head, please observe this delighted smile…. And vacate the premises. My head is quite noisy enough without having to listen to you wring your hands. Oh I just love it.

Geek Knitter: Turned the Corner

http://geekknitter.blogspot.com/2010/05/turned-corner.html

A long ramble, looking at life through yarn-covered glasses. Wednesday, May 12, 2010. Is it possible to turn the corner on a round shawl? It's been an awfully long time since those geometry classes in junior high, but I'm pretty sure circles don't have corners. I’ll just call it a term of art. I’m halfway through the border of Centrino… check it out:. Posted by Geek Knitter. I love knitted-on borders, especially when I get to the point where the end is in sight. May 12, 2010 at 7:57 AM. Oh it is in sight!

Geek Knitter: She Came To Me

http://geekknitter.blogspot.com/2010/05/she-came-to-me.html

A long ramble, looking at life through yarn-covered glasses. Friday, May 14, 2010. She Came To Me. You may remember that I knit Helena. A few months ago. OK, OK, it was actually several months ago. Many several. I knit it, I wove in the ends, I washed it and I posed it on Paddington bear. I even wrapped it and wrote a card. And there it sat on my desk, waiting (and waiting and waiting) for me to take it to the baby it had been made for. Plenty of room for her to grow into it! Do you think she likes it?

http://geekknitter.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

A long ramble, looking at life through yarn-covered glasses. Friday, June 25, 2010. It usually strikes me in late spring or early summer. After a long wet winter, suddenly I just can’t stand the same routines anymore. Everything looks the same, feels the same, tastes the same, sounds the same…. Eventually I can’t take it anymore, I simply have to get out of town! This year, we headed east, out to John Day. Day was spent in the Grant County Historical Museum. Oh, what a wonderful place it is! Not only is ...

A long ramble, looking at life through yarn-covered glasses. Thursday, February 25, 2010. Questions I Cannot Ask. I am a gatherer by nature; a nester, I suppose. I like to have things where I can reach them, and I line my particular nests accordingly. That means that my bedside table looks like this:. There’s a wide assortment there, everything from fantasy to science fiction to mystery to multi-generational tales of families and the things they go through. Which leaves my bookshelves looking like this:.

Geek Knitter: Gauge Bites

http://geekknitter.blogspot.com/2010/05/gauge-bites.html

A long ramble, looking at life through yarn-covered glasses. Tuesday, May 18, 2010. Especially when you completely fail to check it. Remember the too short cabled sock. I bit the bullet and frogged it all the way back. I knit it again; giving myself the extra length I needed in the foot, and got ready to start the gusset. I decided to try it on first, and noticed something I’d ignored the first time. Until this morning, did I actually measure my stitches per inch. And that, dear readers, brings us to the...

The (mis)Adventures of Knitting Friends

Saturday, August 26, 2006. Originally uploaded by evilsciencechick. I got my mom's socks off this week - hopefully she got them today, as tomorrow is her birthday. Sorry no final picture - I literall finished them on the way to work and then mailed them from there. Also, it calls for an "afterthought heel," which makes me nervous. I am DOWN with the short row heel, but I think it only works for the toe up patterns. Posted by evilsciencechick at 2:50 PM. Monday, August 07, 2006. I like making up words.
