don't be stingy with the jalapenos: September 2009
http://dontbestingywiththejalapenos.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
Thursday, September 17, 2009. One of my favorite poets. I CRIED over beautiful things knowing no beautiful thing lasts. The field of cornflower yellow is a scarf at the neck of the copper sunburned woman,. The mother of the year, the taker of seeds. The northwest wind comes and the yellow is torn full of holes,. New beautiful things come in the first spit of snow on the northwest wind,. And the old things go, not one lasts. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Cook eat dance love. If a man cou...

don't be stingy with the jalapenos: August 2008
http://dontbestingywiththejalapenos.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 21, 2008. Birds of a feather. Every year I notice birds as they begin to flock in preparation for migration; usually the first I notice is around mid-July when the grackles and other blackbirds begin flocking. It doesn't mean they're leaving yet (as anyone with a bird feeder can testify! It's just barely summer! Don't make me think about fall! Along with the flocking birds, I've noticed the late summer wildflowers: ragweed, ironweed, asters, goldenrod. the beginnings of color in the ...

Cook Eat Dance Love: Harvest Apple Bread Pudding
http://cookeatdancelove.blogspot.com/2007/10/harvest-apple-bread-pudding.html
Thursday, October 25, 2007. Harvest Apple Bread Pudding. I keep buying apples from the orchard down the road. I love just about anything when it's in season and the variety - and varieties - of apples available now aren't matched by anything found the rest of the year. I've made a lot of different apple dishes lately, including several apple desserts. Here's the latest. HARVEST APPLE BREAD PUDDING. 4 leftover corn muffins. 1 2/3 c. whole milk. 2 tart apples, peeled, cored, and cut into chunks. Bok Choy-N...

Cook Eat Dance Love: Balsamic Berries
http://cookeatdancelove.blogspot.com/2007/08/balsamic-berries.html
Friday, August 31, 2007. This is a simple but delicious dessert - a nice blend of sweet fresh fruit with a slight tang from the vinegar. Good on its own or as a topping for ice cream or other desserts. Blueberries, about 1 c. Sliced fresh peaches, 1/2-1 c. Balsamic vinegar, 3 T. Sugar or honey, 2-3 T.*. Pinch of salt and pepper (yes, pepper! This can be made with a variety of berries and fresh fruit. You may want to add spices: cinnamon or cardamom, for example. Experiment, and have fun! Cook Eat Dance Love: Clara Diesslin's Hot Milk Sponge Cake
http://cookeatdancelove.blogspot.com/2014/08/clara-diesslins-hot-milk-sponge-cake.html
Sunday, August 31, 2014. Clara Diesslin's Hot Milk Sponge Cake. Grandma and me, circa 1959? My favorite reason for baking it is as the support for garden-fresh strawberries instead of the more traditional biscuit-type shortcake, but I've topped it with many kinds of fruits and sometimes ice cream. Until this weekend, however, I never thought to top it with blueberries. I have blueberries in my freezer given to me by a friend and was trying to think of a good dessert for some of them. 2 c unbleached flour.

Cook Eat Dance Love: Apple Blueberry Crisp
http://cookeatdancelove.blogspot.com/2007/09/apple-blueberry-crisp.html
Friday, September 14, 2007. This recipe just happened - I brought home a peck of apples from the orchard down the road, looked in the fridge at the blueberries leftover from our last visit to a local grower, and decided dessert was in order. Pie? Not enough time to make a crust (and too lazy). Crisp? Yes - easy to throw together, quick to bake. So throw and bake I did. For a change I thought to write down measurements in case it turned out well. And I'm glad I did! 1 1/2 c. blueberries. 3 T maple syrup.

It's been a year, for me personally, for the country and the world. A lot of people are struggling and a lot of people are uncertain about what the future holds. I don't use my blogs as a space to talk too much about myself or about personal things; they're mostly a way to share my photos/cooking (when I do some! Links to this post. http://dontbestingywiththejalapenos.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
Wednesday, June 17, 2009. It's Wednesday evening, the end of a warm, muggy day. Sitting in a chair feeling the cool breezes come in the window, enjoying the night air. Smells of fresh cut grass and the sounds of children's laughter, dusky skies, the last of the birdsong. And then. a blinking star. A spot of gold. Another! The first fireflies of the season.
