Presentations Available March 2016. Monday, August 10, 2015. Inspiration - Where Does it Come From? I often find my inspiration coming from fabric garments. I don't have an image for this one but the original was in an accessories shop sewn with three separate pieces of fabric gathered to one another. Later I knit this:.

punkconformity: July 2013

http://punkconformity.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

Life, history, and the pursuit of knitting. Wednesday, July 24, 2013. I am half a week away from a two-week vacation. Why is it that the week leading up to the vacation is so hard to get through? This weekend I started and finished both Maise Dobbs. By Jacqueline Winspear, and The Ocean at the End of the Lane. By Neil Gaiman. They were both excellent, although I found the narrator of Ocean. Just finished my Debonair Jumper. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Notes on a Scandal: My take on the USOC event.

punkconformity: June 2011

Life, history, and the pursuit of knitting. Tuesday, June 21, 2011. Book Review: Inferno (2008) by Niven and Pournelle. Inferno (1976, reissued 2008). Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle. This is the second book I’ve read in the last year that uses Dante as a frame-work on which to hang a new story, and while Matthew Pearl’s The Dante Club. Was a fine effort, Inferno. punkconformity: Book Review: Thames: A Biography

http://punkconformity.blogspot.com/2013/08/book-review-thames-biography.html

Life, history, and the pursuit of knitting. Thursday, August 22, 2013. Book Review: Thames: A Biography. Posted in God Save the Queen. I love London. Some might say I am a little obsessed. My first project as a research assistant was to help design a course that tied early novels to the geography and social structures of London. So when Peter Ackroyd uses the city (or in this case, the river Thames) as a backdrop for his wild, outlandish, pet theories, I get a little peeved. Huh As opposed to the numerou...

punkconformity: The Garden

http://punkconformity.blogspot.com/2013/08/the-garden.html

Life, history, and the pursuit of knitting. Monday, August 19, 2013. Shortly after I planted them, it looked like this:. But sadly, things did not quite go as planned. I combated the bugs - beer traps got rid of the slugs that were eating all my basil. I fertilized and Mother Nature watered consistently. And still, the veg did not appear. The plants grew green and tall, but without fruit. And at least the herbs are happy. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). On the needles IV. By Gum, By Golly.

Life, history, and the pursuit of knitting. Monday, July 16, 2012. Notes on a Scandal: My take on the USOC event. I know this is late, but I have to say it. After the brouhaha. And even that only really got the point after a knitter commented to correct the initial version of the article. They made terrible puns at our expense. They generally treated our legitimate outrage as a hysterical temper-tantrum by a quaint and clearly unhinged, pre-feminist-movement granny. Even once the USOC apologized,...You m...

NOT JUST ABOUT KNITTING: November 2014

http://www.notjustaboutknitting.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Thursday, 27 November 2014. I finished the Pendulum Shawl the other day and got it blocked. I had enough of the wheat-coloured yarn to do an extra section. I blocked it quite firmly so it is quite drapey yet the garter stitch is still nice and squishy. I'm not totally happy with the centre back and in retrospect, should have knit a long garter stitch tab instead of starting with three stitches and increasing. I have been inspired by some of the weaving projects I've seen on the Weavolution. Linen Scarf -...

NOT JUST ABOUT KNITTING: February 2015

http://www.notjustaboutknitting.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Thursday, 26 February 2015. We have had craptastic weather for the past week. It has been cold, windy, and intermittently rainy, keeping Winter Texans huddling inside. Yesterday, the clouds disappeared and we saw blue skies again. Although it was sunny, the north wind still made it chilly but we ventured outdoors again, nonetheless. The redheads were sunning themselves as usual. We saw this reddish egret hunting for food (little fish). I can't not take pictures of these birds. This reddish egret looked g...

NOT JUST ABOUT KNITTING: Caterpillar Daycare

http://www.notjustaboutknitting.com/2015/07/caterpillar-daycare.html

Thursday, 30 July 2015. The caterpillars are big enough that there is no concern about them eating each other. Last night, the average length was 1cm. The white thing on the right is wet tissue used to keep the milkweed leaf fresh. Today, I put all 5 of them in the same container with lots of fresh milkweed. The container is an old ice container from a previous fridge. When I was picking the milkweed this morning, I found another egg! All of this is taking place on the kitchen table. Where to Find Me?

NOT JUST ABOUT KNITTING: December 2014

http://www.notjustaboutknitting.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Friday, 19 December 2014. Good To Go - Finally! A couple of minutes after publishing that last post, I received an email with our cruise tickets. Yay! Talk about last minute notification. We are scurrying around getting our clothes and other sundries packed and ready for our drive to the stay-park-and-fly hotel near our departing airport tomorrow. I also need to pack my knitting stuff. We fly to our embarkation port on Sunday morning and will be setting sail at 9pm. See you on the flip side. In the meant...

Monday, October 13, 2014. I can make that. I can make that. I’ve heard it before. You’ve said it before. Even I’ve said if before. “I can make that”. So you go home, you gather supplies, thoughts, time. You jump in. Working feverishly, you paint, form, mold, move, cut, file, manipulate. Why doesn’t it look like the one I saw? Knitting RN

I'm a 29 year old RN who works in an ICU in Seattle. Thursday, November 26, 2009. Well, it's been a long time. And I have a lot to catch up on! First, Bernie and I made an offer and bought a house! It's a lovely 4 bed/1.75 bathroom house. We have some plans for it, but are happy with the way things are right now. :). Now for the knitting! I did some test knitting for Emily Wessel of damp city knits! This is the Sunflower Shawl:. I knit is using Wollmeise 100% superwash sock. Probably not so much. :).
